Not eating enough pregnant?

I’m 27 weeks how do I know if I’m eating enough for baby? Some days I just feel like it’s not enough I know you’re supposed to eat for ‘one.’ But I worry it’s just not enough!

today has been HECTIC and I’ve only managed cereal, a sandwich, cheese pasta and some fruit!🥲

As long as you're not hungry or losing weight, you should be fine. Can you bring snacks in your bag - snack cheese, nuts, fruit, cereal bars?

GingerbreadPanda · 29/10/2022 19:59

If you feel fine (not hungry or tired or ill) and you weren't underweight to start with you're probably okay, especially as it sounds like other days you eat proper meals.

I feel tired today but I think that’s due to only a couple of hours sleep last night!
normal day to day is
smoothie, Actimel, cereal, jacket potato cheese and beans, crisps, chocolate bar, cereal bar, crackers, fruit, then dinner which is either steak veg and chips/lasagna/cottage pie/pasta bake/bolognese/roast and then a small Kipling cake!

my diets been the same everyday but I just worry it’s not enough!

You don't need to eat any more than normal until 3rd trimester. Stop overthinking, you'll stress yourself out! 💕💕

CSR721 · 29/10/2022 21:45

(And even in 3rd trimester you only need 200 calories more. 2 bananas, that's all)

Thank you, I had a previous eating disorder and lots of vitamin deficiencies so I’ve been really making sure I eat! Sometimes it just doesn’t seem like it’s enough or that I’m particularly healthy 😵‍💫

Just make sure you're keeping up with your pregnancy vitamins op. I had hg and couldn't keep anything but water down for the first 5 months and baby is on track to be a little chunk when they arrive! Your body knows to give them all the goodness first and you get the seconds so you'll know from yourself if you need more like dry skin, teeth not feeling great or dry hair and looking grey/ feeling overly exhausted. I just tried to make sure that anything I ate was nutritious (so I'd get the benefit if it stayed down) and that I was covering all the main food groups. Our midwife told us as well that it's only 200 extra cals by 3rd trimester which is like a half a sandwich so you don't need to eat as much as the eating for two myth as long as its good wholesome and nourishing food you're eating. If you're really worried especially given your past experiences I'd ask the midwife for a meeting with the dietician. I had to meet one due to gd and they were so lovely and very reassuring so hopefully they could put your mind at ease because it sounds like you're doing just fine to me 😊

It sounds fine, your normal day sounds crazy though, especially all the unhealthy empty calories, I’m pregnant and wouldn’t be eating all that.

PaisleyP · 30/10/2022 00:50

I'm losing so much weight. I'm already 2 stone down and having a bowl of soup a day and maybe some tangerines. If I eat any more than that I'm throwing it back up. I am so so tired from it now. But the midwives aren't concerned.

I'm 31 weeks

When I was pregnant with my DCs the midwives said all I needed 'extra' was a piece of brown toast and butter a day. Can't say my chocolate stuffing face did just that! But it's definitely not much more you need. Make sure you drink lots, that will help baby too. Congratulations btw!

I vomited from the beginning to end, even in labour, multiple times a day, and baby was fine.
Small and exceptionally strong, but fine. Although that wasn't anything to do with food consumption, just lack of space.
Try not to worry, your baby has first pickings on your nutrients and you get what's left over I believe
