What size clothes for a big baby?

Currently measuring to be over 10lbs at birth, although I appreciate its not always accurate.

What size is it likely he’ll wear at birth - newborn or 0-3? Just packing the bag and not sure

A word of warning, my growth scans put ds as over 10lbs on 2 different scans. He was 5.12lb when born and dh had to dash out to asda to get some tiny baby clothes!

Just check the labels because “newborn” can mean 7lbs, 8lbs, 9lbs depending on the shop. Both of mine were 9lbs and and very long and wore John Lewis newborn size in hospital and for the first couple of weeks (normal to lose bit of weight after birth). 0-3 would have drowned them and I wanted them to look snug in their first outfits.

Smaller babies can grow into 0-3 but larger babies will often struggle to squeeze into newborn size.

If you have the standard machine washable stretchy sleepsuits in 0-3 they should cover long/thin and shorter/cuddly shapes of larger babies. This is what they will spend their first three months wearing.

A couple of nice outfits for photos is plenty - you just don't get the wear out of them to buy more.

There is a special circle of hell for shops which sell baby clothes which have to be "hand washed" or "wash only with similar colours"!

So many of my labels say “newborn” rather than the weight, or because they’re second/third hand they have been washed a lot and you can’t see what it says

If you can see the brand you can Google what their newborn sizes are?

eg this is on the John Lewis website

0-3 months. Newborn may only fit for 1 week.

I'd also take newborn - my DD was apparently measuring as a 10 pounder to the point they insisted on induction on due date. She was 7lb 3! I took newborn, up to 1 month and 0-3, she wore newborn x

Had 3, one 50th, one 25th and one who put on a lot of weight and they all went into 0-3 🤷🏻‍♀️ it looks big at first (all baby clothes will!!!) but it's ok!
