Phoned them in tears today as I have been feeling rotten all weekend. I was violently sick on Saturday and had close to a migraine yesterday with some low down stomach pains (have suffered migraine before so know the difference between headaches and migraine). Today, I just don't feel right. I can't pinpoint anything but just not right.

Came home from work at 1 to phone antenatal/midwife to ask for advice - their recommendation - we can't do anything unless you are bleeding so stay at home or see your GP. I need to go now as I am busy.

Great advice - really appreciated. Managed to get an appointment with my GP who thankfully will see me today but that's may be because I was in a state when I called.

Anyone else with terrible unhelpful midwife?

fingers crossed that your doc gives you the all clear.

Try not to let this experience put you off your midwives though - they may have been having a particularly bad day and you have to put up with them for nine months.

congratulations on your pregnancy, and let us know what the doc says

How far along are you? I know lots of people who have had equally insensitive replies to worries like this in early pregnancy. The fact is there isn't much they can do in early pg but it is all in the delivery of that informtaion isn't it? There's a difference between "sod off we can't help, stop wasting our time" and " oh dear, I tell you what if you are worried go and see your GP. I'm afraid we can't really offer much help/advice unless you have bleeding, but your GP shoudl be able to check you overa nd reassuare you etc etc "

Wonder if some MWs have forgotten/don't know what it's like to be pg, esp 1st time pg.?!

in my (limited) experience, they sort of get better the more pregnant you are...if that's any reassurance.
Hope all goes ok for you.

Been to the doc and I have to go back tomorrow morning for various tests including diabetes.

Gosh, I know you must be really worried now, but try to keep as calm as possible.

I remember when I was pg with dd1 they suggested that I had a test for diabetes and I got myself worked up into a right state (it turned out that the vanilla slice I had for breakfast was the reason for excess sugar in my sample)

Do you have a dp/dh who will be at home with you tonight?

When I was pregnant my local midwife service were crap. Their only advice EVER was 'See your GP'. I know they were busy, but FFS, so was my GP!

Yes, hubby will be home soon and my cousin is on the other end of the phone if I need her. I hope it isn't diabetes and it is just that pregnancy hormones are hitting me harder than others. Time will tell.

Been told not to eat or drink anything first thing in the morning which is likely to bring on sick feelings again. Can't win!

hi ya finallypregnant sometimes midwives forget that every women is differnt and have different needs just a bit of reassurance is great!!!!

i loved my midwives i seen but i remember going to parent craft classes and this old midwife who did not have kids was talking about breast feeding!!!
it was likebeing at school she made us all feel like we would be the worst mum ever if you did not breast feed!!
so she asks us all " who is bottle feeding?"

i could tell alot of us were afraid to say but this women that was pregnant with twins puts her hand up and straigt away the midwife says " what!!! god gave you two breasts so its possible"

the women cried felt so bad for her!!!
sorry about the length!!!

i also had a doctor receptionist shout at me and made me cry!!

i was like you sore tired and unsure what was happening told her i was 20 weeks pregnant she said well you dont look pregnant at all i was so embarrased a doctor heard her and took me straight away and filed a complaint against her!!!!!

Hi, I am 2nd time pregnant and I think the ante natal care has gone downhill. As I recall it, we only had to phone the hospital with concerns last time round and they would arrange to see us. This time round, on the 3 occasions I have phoned, the triage midwife has been outright rude or verging on rude and they have all told me to see my GP (with 'get lost we're busy' as the subtext!). My GP is very nice but frazzled and is not an expert!!!! Anyway, I've been saying I feel tired and ill for weeks and it took me nearly fainting at yoga to google my own symptoms and work out I m probably anaemic. I have spoken to midwives at my work and they have told me how dreadfully understaffed units are just now. It sounds like an awful job - really really stressful. I am considering paying privately given my recent experience. Has anyone any thoughts on this?? I'm based in Glasgow...
