Should work be asking me to do this?

I work in a mainly desk based role but we do some site visits from time to time.
I am due to do a site visit to a building site in a few weeks time, I will be 20 weeks pregnant.
Work (still, despite my asking) have not done my generic pregnancy risk assessment but I doubt it would cover this exact scenario.
Have discussed this scenario with manager who thinks 'will probably be ok' and 'well we do need to do the site visit'.
I have (subtly) been encouraged not to disclose pregnant to building site incase they don't want me there.
We are a team of about 30 so there is no reason another member of staff couldn't swap in.

It just feels like a needless risk to me. But AIBU? Probably am.

Honestly, you have to do what is right for you. If there is other people to cover or just do the visit let them. There is risk every where but why put yourself where the risk is higher. Does your company or boss support you with your pregnancy? also if they are telling you to keep quiet about it if you go on the site in case they turn you away, then you have the answer - it's not safe. Good luck.

I would contact your HR department and advise them that you have not had any pregnancy risk assessments carried out and your concerns for your upcoming site visit. I would have thought you shouldn't be at too much risk if your role involves walking around the site inspecting etc however you know your role better than anyone else and as you have concerns then you are right to address them and get your work to follow proper protocols.

If there is any need for you to do any lifting, working at height, exposure to hazardous substances then defo push for a work specific assessment.

Hope you can get this sorted!

What does the site visit consist of? If it's just walking around with a hard hat on I can't see the issue. If it's climbing up and down ladders etc then yes I can see why you don't want to go.

What is at the building site that might pose a risk to you or the pregnancy?
I wouldn't hide your pregnamcy from the site manager. They are the most likely to know if there is some specific risk for you.

As long as a pregnancy specific risk assessment is done you are fine to go. But you obviously don’t want to for some weird reason.

Hi - I've worked in construction through 2 pgs! First of all, your employer has to do your pg risk assessment. That's just law. (You could do your own draft, then arrange a mtg with your manager to go through it, if they won't engage).

Being pregnant should not stop you visiting a construction site per se, but as the impact of an accident to a pregnant woman is greater than if the same occurred to someone not pregnant, then this needs to be risk assessed and specific mitigation considered.

Specific to the site visit - what will you be doing - walking from car park to sure offices via a designated pedestrian route? Accompanied visit around active areas? Visit to inactive areas? Do you have a CSCS card? And yes of course the site manager needs to know! Wat if something happened to you whilst there - construction related or otherwise?

You definitely shouldn’t hide the fact you’re pregnant and your manager (or whoever asked that of you) certainly shouldn’t be requesting that.
As for the site visit itself, I’d imagine it would be fine but we don’t know what your site visits consist of- walking around a building site is most likely fine, being asked to carry anything heavy, being around dangerous chemicals, climbing ladders, or slip hazards as examples, not so fine.
definitely remind them you need your risk assessment ASAP.

Thanks all for the perspectives.
Will push for work risk assessment (lazy manager) and will inform the site.
No heavy lifting involved etc.
Seems like it's reasonable for me to go under the circumstances.
