Is the Positive Birth Company hypnobirthing pack worth it?

Considering buying it as I've heard good things but £39?!? Maybe I'm just cheap but I feel like that's so expensive! Would definitely appreciate some opinions on it before I get it. I'm struggling with a lot of anxiety ATM at 30 weeks and looking for things to help - I've already had one child and this is my second and somehow knowing what's to come this time round has me more nervous than I was the first time 🙄

Do you use Instagram? Their page is really good and posts a lot so you could use that as a resource for a couple of weeks to see if it's worth it? They also have a good Youtube channel - I've actually used a lot of their online resources without actually buying the pack (although I'm sure the pack is fantastic!)

Ah I didn't know they had stuff like that online I'll have to check that out, thank you for the tip 😊

It is very, very good. For me, not just the hypnobirthing stuff, but giving an in depth understanding of what was about to physically happen - I needed that so much. I felt a lot more confident. Highly recommended.

Juicylychee · 27/10/2022 17:33

Yep it’s amazing value. Very cheap compared to what you’d pay for classes.

TheBirdintheCave · 27/10/2022 17:35

Yep :)

Just popping in to say that I think 39 is a good price but everyone please remember that hypnobirthing is anxiety and pain management techniques which can help you cope with pain and anxiety but cannot lead you to have a certain type of birth of your body and/or your baby have other ideas. Just so if it's not straightforward you don't beat yourself up afterwards for not hypnobirthing "well enough". HTH!

ChristmasJumpers · 27/10/2022 17:42

Following as I'm trying to decide between "the positive birth company" and "the birth uprising". Very close in price so no idea how to choose!

Money wise, I agree with pp that it's one of the cheapest. I have very mixed feelings about the actual content though. It's very biased towards natural water births and quite negative towards induction, pain relief, intervention etc. As a naive FTM I lapped it up and was therefore left feeling like a failure when I did not get to give birth in the pool but instead ended up in theatre with forceps. Some bits, like the science sections are great, but I would say also educate yourself on all types of birth so that you are as prepared as you can be, whatever happens on the day!

Plantmoretrees86 · 27/10/2022 17:44

@twinkleteas your message was what I needed to see a few months ago haha! I've accepted now that of course I didn't fail, but if I could have my time again, I'd do a different course that was more balanced...

invinovvv · 27/10/2022 17:52

Yes it is 100% worth it. I'm not a hippy dippy type at all but had a friend who also isn't recommend it to me. I was nervous about my 2nd labour, was aiming for a VBAC but kept crying with fear in my last trimester😬Exactly the same as you, more nervous 2nd time around as less naive. Oh my word what a difference it made though, the breathing techniques in particular were worth the money alone and I can weirdly look back on birth 2 which was a vbac in the end and say I 'almost' enjoyed it! Or at least felt very superwoman and in control. Good luck!

Juicylychee · 27/10/2022 19:15

I disagree that it heavily favours water birth etc, I felt it covered all options and explained how to make the best of an induction etc.

Beanbagtrap · 27/10/2022 19:19

I found it assumes you have agency in asking for what you want (when in my experience the midwives utterly ignored me to the point I was telling them I needed to push and they walked out of the room without saying anything and didn't come back for 3 hours) and there's an element of blame attached if you do end up in an induction/C-section scenario.

This is how I took it as well.

I'm autistic so being taught how to take control of the things I could control (ie the type of care I was receiving, whether I wanted vaginal checks etc) was really helpful. The course also made me aware of all the different types of births I could have and how to draw up a 'plan of action' for all of those eventualities.

On paper the birth of my son looked awful. It was a 36 hour labour with a 3b tear at the end but I don't view it as a negative experience.

PinkPlantCase · 27/10/2022 20:56

I just bought the book, it was about £10? Really useful stuff!

Hatscats · 27/10/2022 23:18

Yes! But they often have offers for less - £20ish last time I saw it!

Pumpkinssoup · 28/10/2022 07:40

I found it really helpful and when I was in Labour I was able to visualise what my body was doing and breathe my baby out.

they usually have deals etc so maybe wait a bit and see if an offer comes up to get it cheaper.

you get quite a lot with the pack, I loved the positive affirmations and said them to myself regularly to help myself feel positive about birth instead of scared! I was induced but I would say I had a positive birth and managed with just gas and air, partly due to my mindset - helped by the PBC course!

Pinkypong · 28/10/2022 07:50

Hello, I didn’t get a pack, I got 6 hour long sessions, tailored to my fears by a really good hypnotist. It meant I could feel the pain but it was somewhere else, if that makes sense and I was able to really enjoy the sensations. Also meant the time between contractions seemed longer so I was able to wrest and the contractions seemed short. The nurse couldn’t believe I was 9 cm dilated and happy and laughing. So I would recommend someone who can tailor to your individual fears and mindset, but I do think a pack will help too. Hypnotism is amazing stuff. Pm me if you’d like the name of my person .

Pumpkinssoup · 28/10/2022 12:33

Hypnobirthing and hypnotism are different things 😊

doyouwanticewiththat · 28/10/2022 17:47

I used hypnobirthing with my second DC after difficult first birth with DC1 . I would really recommend it . I went to classes though which worked out more expensive so I'd say £39 is a bargain !
It helped me visualise the contractions and the breathing techniques were what really helped . Had a positive experience as a result , and 100% is was because of hypnobirthing !
