Hi,

had my growth scan today all measurements fine baby roughly 5lb 10 at 35 weeks. However they said the fluid level around the baby is normally measured as normal anything below 25cm, I measured 27cm. Anyone had this?
Was sent for a blood test & have to test for diabetics.
I took to google (I know u should never Dr google) to read up on all this & wish I hadn’t…possible complications etc I’ve just been upset all night about it.
Can anyone else share if they had this please? Was all ok? X

Hi OP, just in case there aren't many replies, or to be reading whilst waiting for replies, the search function works pretty well and gave a lot of past threads, here's the link:

Polyhydramnios

I had it in my last pregnancy and have it in this one too.

I had/am having planned c sections each time so hasn't affected the birth in any way. I've had huge bumps both times though but also big baby's so there's that too! 😂

Hatscats · 25/10/2022 22:45

I had the same at 36 weeks, was told slightly high.
another scan at 39 weeks and it was normal again.
no issues with my daughter!

I had it, with no complications directly because of it. I was a planned section but my waters went a few days before so was then an emergency. Not sure if they went early due to that? Because of the weight of it all? (big baby aswell as I'm diabetic)

The only thing I will say is have plenty old towels at the ready of your waters go themselves because by god there's so much fluid 😂

I had it with my third pregnancy, consistently measured 6 weeks ahead from 28 weeks (fundal height) & fluid levels were between 30-35. I was referred to fetal medicine for extra scans but nothing was found other than baby was measuring at the 98 percentile.. 50% of cases have an unknown cause. DS was born at 37 weeks weighing 7lbs and no issues whatsoever. When my waters went it was like a tsunami & i was massive. Try not to worry, bloods may reveal a cause such as gestational diabetes, but it may be unknown. It may effect your options for birth, i had to be in delivery rather than the birthing centre.

@Katevic hi, just like to say I'm currently going through this also (34+2) but since 28 weeks I found out I have GD (I am diet controlled so no medication) I have had the torch blood tests to see if anything other than gd has caused this polhydramnios & nothing came back from that so seems like me having gd has caused the excess fluid. I know exactly how your feeling as I too have been feeling anxious around going into labour and what birth is going to be like, ect due to the risks/complications we could be dealt with but I suppose we have to put our trusts in the midwives & nurses! (easier said than done) always here if you need a chat since we are in a very similar situation X

I had this with my daughter who was born 2 weeks ago.

They'll blood test you for Gestational diabetes and for slapped cheek (parvovirus).
Midwife said to me I'd bloody well know if I'd had slap cheek in pregnancy as I'd have felt really ill and in 12 years she had only seen one case of it.

GD I'd had a negative test about 6 weeks prior but they redid it and confirmed negative again.

The sonographer was very blasé about it - said it's absolutely the most unreliable measurement they take as they just have to look for the biggest pocket of fluid and measure it but it can be affected by things like how the baby is lying (for example on mine you could see the baby was over to one side and pushing all the fluid into one big pocket on the other side, without much around it, and the midwife said the baby might have just peed and my body hadn't had a chance to remove it yet! Being so close to the upper tolerance level you could also find it's one of these things. They sent me for extra scans to monitor it and it was always fine at later checks.

Try not to google - you'll always see the worst and most worrisome. Try and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and enjoy your lovely new baby when they get here!
