Aspirin & Hypothyroidism / underactive thyroid

Hello,

I’m 18+2 weeks pregnant with our first child and am on Levothyroxine for hypothyroidism (have been medicated for it for years).

Not sure if relevant but I have low BMI too (again, have always been tall and skinny).

I’ve just had a call from a consultant at the hospital due to the referral for either hypothyroidism or low BMI and they seemed to ask numerous times if I was on aspirin at all.. which I’m not and have never been told to take.
Now I’m off the phone, I’m concerned whether I should be on aspirin???

Reading online discuss pre eclampsia- my blood pressure has always come back as normal at midwife appointments.

Interested to hear your thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi,

I have hypothyroidism and am on levothroxine and have been for years also.

Have 1 dc already and pregnant with dc2

I've never heard of asprin for hypothyroidism, only for high blood pressure! Could you get in touch with your midwife to see if there's anything on your file that would make them think you should be on asprin?

You don't need to be on aspirin.

Hypothyroidism here & the only time I was told to take aspirin was on one of my IVF cycles after multiple mc’s.

I’d be more inclined to think they had done a coagulation blood test, or have you complained of bruising or something so they want to make sure you aren’t on Aspirin?

I’m under an endocrinologist and have never been told to take aspirin.

Hi, I’m currently 14+6 with DC 2, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 18 months ago. I was put on aspirin from 12 weeks however I think that’s more to do with having pre-eclampsia in my previous pregnancy as opposed to anything to do with hypothyroid.

I have had my thyroid completely removed, and take levothroxine in the same way you would with Hypothyroid. First pregnancy no issues and blood was tested regularly during pregnancy but I always required the same dose. Pregnancy number 2- I was referred to specialist at 12 weeks as my levels were crazy….now taking a much higher dose. Specialist never mentioned Asprin???? He did however advise I take any pregnancy vitamins several hours apart from Levothyroxine.

Hiya,

Underactive thyroid here and pregnant with DC2.

I was in aspirin in first pregnancy and in this pregnancy due to a low papp-a score and increased risk of pre eclampsia, nothing to do with my thyroid.

My Papp-a score was noted on my 12 week scan report..

Hi, did you have Graves’ disease before your thyroidectomy?

No actually not- it was not connected to Graves‘ disease. It is apparently very rare in younger children, but why I was also recommended to have surgery. The theory was it is much easier to treat underactive than overactive, and considering I would have the condition for life, complete removal would make it easier to manage. Generally I can tell quite well from how I feel whether I am taking the right levels! Pregnancy just throws everything out of sink.

Currently 28 weeks pregnant and I have iron as ferrous fumurate 28mg in my prenatal tablets.
I want to take 20mg of iron bisglycinate with my prenatals but different hours.
my blood tests for iron are borderline and I feel like the NHS won’t prescribe iron tablets unless it’s below the range.
Before pregnancy iron bishlycinate increased my levels a lot but I’m not seeing an increase just taking the iron in my prenatal.
would taking 48mg be a lot in a day?
