Gentle section in the UK

Hello, this is my final baby and I will be having a planned section. I really want a gentle section and I'm fortunate that my hospital offers them.

So any one have any experiences? Any advice on what I can ask for or what I can do? I want baby to come straight to me with gown down but usually its emergency to show me then they disappear for 10 minutes until I get to hold. Will I be able to?

Thanks

My second emcs, we had delayed cord clamping and then dc2 was given to me for skin to skin. She was on my chest in around 3 minutes after birth and had never left my sight since I'd watched her emerge in all her grumpy glory. They did all the measurements etc in recovery around 3 hours later. She was placed on my thigh until the cord was cut and then passed straight to me. They put the screen as low down my body as possible so we had plenty of room for the skin to skin. Dropped it when she was ready to come out and all stopped speaking so the first words dc2 heard were mine.

That was at 6am so I imagine with an elective, they'd be even more open to what you want. Apparently gown should go on back to front for ease of access . Mine was on the right way around and was essentially ripped off by the helpful anesthetist (it might have been more helpful if they'd undone the fastenings first as I got some awesome bruises in the process).

Congratulations.

@LeMoo Thank you 😊

@Dinosauratemydaffodils Sounds lovely for a emcs they did the delayed cord clamping too. My previous 2 were emcs but I didn't get any of that, they cut cord and transfered over to do obs and then husband cut the cord again there.

I know as much as they won't have a sheet up this time so I can see baby coming out, but wondered if they'd have the same urgency of cutting the cord and taking away before I get a hold. I would like the delayed clamping too. Fingers crossed.

I’m in Ireland but had a gentle C-section for my second one, third was a premature baby so differed again a bit. They did delayed clamping as standard and lowered the sheet for us to see the baby coming out, then placed him straight on my chest while I was stitched up.

I recently had an emergency c section in a hospital that has gentle CS and got to see him be lifted out, delayed cord clamping, hear his cry, in quiet theatre, take photos, speak to him, immediate skin to skin, but he was then taken to be checked out for c. 5mins in the side of the room as lots of meconium, but then straight back skin to skin and never left me from then on, except for briefly when they cleaned me.

everything I’d communicated to them in notes or in labour they actioned for me - and I was quite ill!

@FFitz10 Lovely to hear you got this for a emcs too, shows really they can do it when things are a bit hectic as it makes all the difference just having the little things.

@Garman Thank you for sharing with me, I'm feeling quite positive I can ask for things now without them thinking I'm crazy.
