Are there any rules about massage in pregnancy? I’m desperate for a deep tissue back massage. I know they do pregnancy massages but I get the feel these are more gentle / aromatherapy types rather than ones to undo all the knots! I’m 13 weeks.

I had a pretty hard massage when I was around 25 weeks with my first pregnancy. I used a therapist who was trained in pregnancy massage so they knew the do’s and don’t. I had to lie on my side but she had special cushions so it was really comfortable. It was the best massage I’ve ever had. She focused on my upper back and shoulders which is where I get most of my problems so not near the baby. I think there is some place on the feet they’re not meant to touch too?

I used to be a beauty therapist who did massages.

I was trained to not do them before 12 weeks and to only use carrier oil, no aromatherapy unless you'd done a specific course on aromatherapy and knew what could and couldn't be used.

You may be asked to sit or lay in different positions bit at your stage of pregnancy you should be fine.

That’s great, thanks both.

@Betsyboo87 It’s definitely my neck and shoulders where I’m feeling all the tension at the moment!

I had massages during both my pregnancies and really helped with back ache.
They just have to be after 12 weeks, and find a comfortable position. As bump got bigger did some on my side. 60 mins of peace and relaxation is amazing. Not helpful when you get the high labido in final trimesters.! lol

Old threat, but as I do massages, indeed, there are considerations when a woman is pregnant, so the therapist has to be suitably trained.
Massages are highly recommend during pregnancy and after birth.
