Growth Scan Accuracy -- Drastically Different Results

My husband and I had our daughter’s 28-week growth scan with our fetal medicine consultant yesterday. Our consultant told us everything looked completely normal, with our daughter’s overall growth measuring at around the 70th percentile and her abdominal circumference (AC) around the 72nd percentile. My husband saw on the ultrasound screen an estimated weight of about 2lb11oz. I am a type one diabetic and my blood sugars are super tightly controlled with the help of my CGM (last few A1Cs have been between 24-28 and my blood sugars are rarely ever above 7 and never remain high), so these were the measurements we were really hoping for as I have devoted so much of my time and energy to keeping my blood sugars strictly controlled. Our consultant told us that our diabetes team could tell us more when we meet with them in a few days, but that everything looked as it should, with a normal AC measurement and that she wasn’t classified as a big baby.

This morning we had a private 4D ultrasound. Obviously there is no diagnostic purpose to this scan and we booked the appointment simply to see more of our daughter and have some videos of her we can treasure forever. While at the appointment, the sonographer took very quick measurements (it took her just seconds, compared to our consultant taking several minutes to confirm all the measurements) and told us our daughter’s AC was in the 97th percentile and that her estimated weight was about 3lb7oz (much larger than what I would expect for a baby of 28w4d). The sonographer wasn’t at all concerned and said it was simply a sign the placenta was working well. This is such a huge difference, though, and now I’m worried we could actually be having a very large baby! I will, of course, bring all this up with the diabetes team when I have my next appointment quite soon.

I imagine I am psyching myself out over nothing and should be putting my trust in our consultant, not a non-diagnostic scan, but I can’t help but worry that our daughter will be too large for her gestational age. I had really been hoping to avoid induction or a C-section and have a physiological birth without intervention, but now I’m starting to worry I might need to plan for a C-section at this rate.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation with very different measurements from two growth scans very close together?
