How are scans and bookings allocated?

Hi

So right now I am exactly 10wks. I spoke to my GP 3 weeks ago and he booked me in for my midwife appointment on 5th November (the next available appointment they had). At which point I will be 12+1.

He said during that appointment she will book in my 12wk scan. Surely by that point it will be waaaay too late to book that. On the phone even he was a little concerned by the lack of time gap and said he will get her to call me to try to get me in sooner so I can have the 12wk in time.

She called later that day to introduce herself and confirmed she wasnt going to see me until i was 12+1 and that there was currently a 3 week list for scans but she cant book it in until she has seen me.

I'll be 15wks by then!

Any ideas?

Note; when on the phone to the GP he did say he had spoken to someone earlier that day who had phoned him and she was only 3weeks (so will be roughly 8 weeks by Nov 5th) but she had been booked in for 5th November too. How often do they book people early and fill all the slots up? It feels a little stupid.

Is there a reason you waited until 7 weeks to tell midwives about your pregnancy? Yes they will book people in for 8 week midwife appointment and 12 week scan as they are notified. No one will be having their 12 week any earlier than 11weeks as it is a specific timeframe they need for the tests

Every Trust is different. I never spoke to my GP. Self-referred on hospital website at 5 weeks and got 2 appointment letters on the same day about 3 weeks later with my booking appointment at 9 weeks and scan at 12 weeks.

I didn't know until then. I dont have a 28 day cycle. Im closer to every 5-6 weeks ish. Then I was away from home dealing with family members in hospital and such so didn't get a chance to test until week 6. Called GP practice and had to wait another 6 days for the doc to actually call me back for a phone appointment to refer me to a midwife.

Very much felt like an eternity.

But it still feels like I shouldn't be having my 8wk midwife appointment at 12 wks and my 12wk scan at 15wks. Surely plenty of people don't find out straight away at 4 weeks and theres something in place for it

It doesn’t matter. If your cycle isn’t regular you may not be 7 weeks anyway, they’ll “date” (ie measure the size) at the scan.

Oh I had my scan at 13 weeks but was dated 14 based on size (actually impossible because of when we had sex but that’s neither here nor there).

But they didn't ask about that. They just asked LMP date. So as far as their booking is concerned they are happy to do both appointments late. Im just getting worried about how they do things. Just seems a bit meh on their part.

It's ideally between 10-14 weeks in pregnancy not exactly 12 weeks. We didn't find out about DS until 26 weeks so never had a 12 week scan, he's currently 9 and playing the guitar in the games room so it wasn't a big deal
