Covid vaccine

Firsttimemam123 · 20/10/2022 18:39

Hi guys
Looking for a bit of advice about the covid vaccine. I'm a healthcare worker and 21 weeks pregnant. I have had my two primary covid vaccines(Pfizer) and one booster(Pfizer). I am now due my 2nd booster which I am very keen to get. There are a few different clinics running, I could get a Moderna or a Pfizer vaccine. If you were me, considering the pregnancy, would you be inclined to get a fourth Pfizer vaccine as I know how my body reacts to it/ have never had any major reactions etc. or would you be happy to introduce a new vaccine or Moderna?
Interested to hear peoples opinions

In a very similar position (healthcare worker, 33 weeks pregnant, previously had 3 doses of Pfizer.
I was hoping to get another Pfizer for my second booster for the reasons you listed - I know I've tolerated it well previously, and as one of the first, it's got the most evidence for safety in pregnancy (because they obviously can't really test that).
I say hoping because I had really mild COVID last week, and now have to wait at least 4 weeks for a booster, so don't know whether I'll actually get one before giving birth!

catchthedog · 20/10/2022 18:42

purely on how I felt (and my mum and sister) when having moderna booster recently i'd choose another pfizer as we felt awful for 24 hrs with temperature etc.
but you may have totally different reaction and maybe I would have reacted the same to pfizer.

I don’t know if this is still current but when I had my moderna booster after 2x Pfizer the evidence was that changing vaccines improved the response slightly, so that might be something worth looking into.

I did think that kitchensupper and if I wasn't pregnant I would probably be inclined to push for Moderna for this exact reason but I think my gut tells me to stick to what my body is used to. Hard to know what the right thing to do is

Pfizer vaccines are no longer recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Personally, I would avoid it at all. There is also an increase number of stillborn babies that no one know way. Better be on the safe side.

Sorry to hear that Nejnej2. I hope it didn't hit you too hard. If it's any consolation if you are hoping to get the vaccine before giving birth so your baby has some immunity it will probably have plenty of immunity from the natural covid you have just had!

I hadn't heard that. Where you read this? if you could send me on a link for this evidence I would greatly appreciate it, I would like to be as informed as I could possibly be

They are still offering Pfizer? Both websites say to offer Pfizer or Moderna.

www.rcog.org.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-women-s-health/vaccination/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding-faqs/

It's all about risk OP, and where that sits personally for you - COVID infection in the third trimester/your newborn or the risks associated with vaccinations.

ttcgoingmad · 20/10/2022 19:07

@Firsttimemam123 I think it was on the government website, and I saw it around a month and a half ago.
I remember thinking that after the big propaganda that it was safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, they change the guidance very quietly.

Kakinkankakoo · 20/10/2022 19:09

Dr John Campbell did a video today looking at the recent spike in neonatal deaths in Scotland. Its on YouTube. I had 3 vaccinations while pregnant and looking back, I'm not sure if I would have done it had my job not been under threat.

Agreed! I am very pro vaccine, always have been throughout the whole pandemic! I will definitely be getting a vaccine and I think my gut says Pfizer as I've had three already. Likewise if my previous 3 had been Moderna I would be keen to stick with it now.

As for Pfizer not being safe for pregnant women anymore this seems to be fake news that popped up on Twitter months ago and has been debunked.

By the way, my first two were Pfizer and the last one was Moderna and I had no reactions to any of them.

Flittingaboutagain · 20/10/2022 19:52

I'm pregnant. Had Moderna after three Pfizer's. No issues aside from sore arm as usual!

I’m in a different situation - I had my pfizer whilst pregnant and my little girl is one next month! I’d go for pfizer. I think there’s a huge amount of data for efficacy and safety now for pfizer and pregnancy.

i83 · 20/10/2022 22:08

I believe that the Moderna vaccine has got more protection for the latest variants/strains. That’s what I was told anyway.

I’ve had 2 x AstraZeneca and 1 x Pfizer but was still leaning towards having the Moderna.

You guys have got me thinking now though!

I’ve had covid 3 times and have been very ill, for weeks, each and every time.

I don’t know what the best thing to do is at all really!!

PGB · 20/10/2022 23:12

I work in a hospital, am 32 weeks and had Pfizer.

Curlywurly3 · 20/10/2022 23:30

My two previous jabs were Pfizer and I had Moderna 3 weeks ago at 19 weeks pregnant. All fine apart from a sore arm for a day

1994girl · 20/10/2022 23:38

My baby boy is nearly 4 months old. I have never had any covid jabs.

PinkFizz1 · 21/10/2022 09:21

I had three Pfizer’s pre pregnancy, and my booster at 31 weeks was Moderna. Literally no side effects whatsoever, not even the sore arm I got with the Pfizer’s!

CSR721 · 21/10/2022 12:59

I've had 3 different ones 😂 we had astra zenneca first before they stopped it, my booster was Pfizer, and the booster I just had at 36w preg was moderna ive been fine with all of them x
