So I bought a pasty from a bakery anyway I after eating it I had a look at the ingredients but it just states (MILK) Cheese (8%), Glaze (Water, MILK Proteins, Dextrose, Rapeseed Oil), nothing about pasteurisation?

should I be concerned??

No

Valentina201 · 20/10/2022 12:41

PHEW!!!! Thank you I’ve had the worst anxiety over things! I’m sure most things have to state they’re unpasteurised don’t they?

I honestly wouldn't think twice about eating something from a bakery. Just avoid stuff like cheese when it's clearly unpasteurised.

Valentina201 · 20/10/2022 12:45

Yeah definitely, I was curious on what they put in them so I had a look at their website and it just stated milk and I was like oh no! Then I emailed them and they said they’re unsure if it’s pasteurised or not😂 so it tumbled abit of anxiety!!

Plus, it's been cooked.
Anyway, unpasteurized does not equal riddled with food poisoning.
Plus, eating something that has harmful bacteria on it does not equal automatic food poisoning. Nor does food poisoning equal automatic risk to baby
Read Emily Oster's book "Expecting Better". It will help you understand the reasons for these (mostly entirely unnecessary/exaggerated/irrelevant) "rules" around food in pregnancy

CassandraBarrett · 20/10/2022 12:46

It's easy to get anxious so best to get all the info you can and you can be more relaxed ☺️

canyoutoleratethis · 20/10/2022 12:49

I second the PP about reading the 'Expecting Better' book, it's excellent, but I would also consider speaking to your midwife and/or your doctor about your anxiety, because that is a strong reaction to eating a pastry, and left untreated, will likely only escalate especially when you're a mum. I'm assuming this is your first, which is understandably an anxious time, but it's important to keep a healthy perspective

The main cheeses that wouldn’t be pasteurised are things like Brie, Camembert etc.

And you can have unpasteurised cheese if it’s been cooked.

Even if you did eat unpasteurised cheese, the risk of getting ill is very low. Have you ever been ill from eating unpasteurised cheese before? Most people haven’t and never will be.

Valentina201 · 20/10/2022 12:51

Thank you all!!
im seeing someone regarding anxiety, which has gotten a lot better just worried myself today for no reason clearly!😂

I'm not sure if it's true but I've been told if it doesn't specifically say unpasteurised, then it's pasteurised!

Even if it wasn't I'm sure you'd be fine, in all my days of eating cheese I haven't been poisoned by it yet!

Valentina201 · 20/10/2022 12:52

No never, I think the whole food thing gets very confusing but I’ll check out those books!
first pregnancy so I’ve been abit anxious!

As a general rule, if it's cooked it's fine.

I munch my way through cheese, pate, sushi and other "banned" items when pregnant and they are adults now!

Valentina201 · 20/10/2022 12:53

Thank you all I feel much more reassured I’m sure you’re all looking at the post like this girl is crazy😂
but means a lot so thank you!

Definitely not crazy, just a worried first time mum! But you're doing great, and if you're seeing someone about your anxiety then that's the best thing you can do for you, and your gorgeous little one growing inside you. I wish you the very, very best for a healthy, happy pregnancy FlowersFlowers
