uncooked par baked quiche followed by diarrhoea = panic and paranoia. Any reassurance on offer?

Title says it all really. Got quiche for lunch yesterday. Dh prepared. we all ate. Afterwards realised it was par baked, never heard of par baked quiche before and supposed to cook for 20 minutes, qhich we didn't.

Last night I was constipated (unfortunately not unusual for me in pg, amd now 19 weeks). Took a magnesium drink given by doc.

Woke up at 3 am and had the worst diarrhoea ever. Today just been extremely tired but no more toilet visit. I can feel baby moving thank God, but am totally paranoid I've caused damage to baby/ am stressing about listeria etc etc. This paranoia isn't really like me but I've felt terrified and tearful and stressed out about it all day.Read that listeria symptoms may not appear till 5 days after. or should I just pull myself together

I can imagine you are stressed about this, but so far it looks like the drink from your doctor may have more to do with it than the quiche.

If you only had diarrhoea and no sickness it does not look like food poisoning or anything. But you know the golden rule, if in doubt contact doctor/midwife!

Good luck.

I don't think one trip to the loo (however bad) sound like food poisoning

Hi,

Sorry to hear you have been so emotional... Listeria is extremely rare and the last outbreak in the UK that involved a group of pregnant women happened in 2002 (or something like that!) because they ate dodgy sandwiches from a hospital canteen and the good news, none of the babies died, some of the women delivered prematurely but the babies were all fine.

Listeria can take a while to incubate so can show up anytime from 48 hours to six weeks after eating the infected food and the symptoms are meant to include flu-like symptoms, gastric problems like diarrhea is only a possible symptom so if that is all you have, I wouldn't worry too much! I had diarrhea a lot through my pregnancy and I worried through it all as I did eat stuff I probably shouldn't (most unwittingly, some because I couldn't resist!) have like pretty rare steak, deli meat, smoke salmon, brie/camembert and runny eggs.

If you are really worried, go to your doctor and get a blood test, it's the only way to find out! BTW, I'm 35+1 and baby is growing well so the constant diarrhea didn't seem to have done much harm to the little one! Take care.

Ax

Thank you. I'm trying to be rational - no one else in family ill, only been 1 bad time, but very emotinaly, gurgly, and can't even feel reassuerd after reading listeria incubation up to 6 weeks! This isn't like me at all. sorry, feel very drained

Poor you! I really hope you feel better soon. It's really easy to be paranoid. This is my first and we have had a bit of a journey and I told DH the other day that I hate being pregnant... I can't stand all the worrying etc. So I completely know where you are coming from. I was thinking today that only now do I feel I might actually hold a healthy baby in my arms and I'm 35+ weeks!

thank you. you'revery sweet. not long now for you before you hold your beautiful little pfb in your arms, tho of course 5 weeks probably seems years away in some ways I guess.

I know how you feel - when I was pregnant with DS we were invited to lunch at the house of one of my husband's colleagues. They knew I was pregnant. It was only after we had eaten the pudding that it was revealed that the chocolate mousse was home made with raw egg. I was terrified for days - but absolutey OK. Good luck - and if you have any doubts at all speak to your doctor or midwife.

yes, I mean, when I discovered the quiche was par baked I was philosophical, oh well it'll be ok, but then getting a rude awakening at 3 am has put the fear of God into me. Esp as it was ages before I felt any movement. Thanks for not laughing at me I'll be glad wehn this pg lark is over. Only 20 weeks to go. sigh.
