Hi everyone. Currently 23 weeks pregnant with baby number two. Went for a scan today as baby was playing up last time. Scan came back and nuchal reading 7.1 . And I’ve been referred to fetal medicine and told to wait for a call.

I just can’t stop thinking about what they could say. Or how long I will have to wait.

has anyone else had experience of this.

thankyou

I’m sorry no one has replied to your thread.

I had a ‘red flag’ at my 20-week scan, which was actually at 22 weeks. Because of the duration of your pregnancy (and mine at the time) it is very likely you’ll be seen extremely quickly, so at least you won’t be left wondering for long. They will also expedite your results if you are offered an amniocentesis or other form of test, and choose to have one. I did and it was done the next day and I got the results inside a week.

I’m sorry you’re left in a state of anxiety. Bear in mind that ultrasounds can be extremely unrealisable for measurements, and that improving technology means things can sometimes be picked up that are just a natural and not concerning. They’re being very thorough for you though.

I hope you get seen quickly and any results are positive.

Hi, we were referred as well as such a horrible time waiting. Luckily seen quick, got a call the next day with an appointment the next.

Hopefully the results will be more reassuring as things can be unclear on the scan. We got told there was a growth on the lung and the heart wasn’t beating properly, FMU confirmed there was a growth but the heart was actually fine. We did get referred for mri and heart scan and had the follow up appt all within 2 weeks after the first.

All the best hope you hear soon

i cried & cried when 'they' found soft markers for chromsome problems on my first baby (in utero).
He was fine in the end, many many scans later, no chromosome issues in reality. But still, it's such a shock, no matter how pessimistic you can try to be (I normally excel at having low expectations).

Hang in there OP. At this point they don't know anything is bad. They just want to double check.

Totally get you OP! I had an early anatomy scan at 18+4 and they find out an isolated soft marker and I was an emotional wreck for days. We choose to have a scan with fetal medicine specialist privately and also did an NIPT. got a second opinion by another fetal medicine specialist just to be sure and they were all being fantastic and absolutely supportive, helped a lot to calm me..

What I have heard is, once you are referred to a fetal medicine specialist, you will be seen as quickly as possible, so it could be anytime now.. It is absolutely stressful when something like this happens.. try to distract yourself with something else... Stress is not good for both you and the baby🥺 sending hugs and wish everything goes well for you xx

Good luck Flowers
I'm under fetal medicine for growth restriction. The waiting between the 20 week scan and the FMU appt was the worst. 6 days and I was a wreck.
Hoping the best for you x
