Hi all

Im new to TTC and for the past few months have charted a short LP of 7 days. I’ve also been experiencing awful back pains and awful cramps about 10 days before my period is due

Being a worrier I’m concerned about the LP and concerned the pains may relate to endo or another underlying condition

Was wondering if a Dr will be helpful now or turn me away as it’s been only a few months …

The anxiety of it all is keeping me up at night so am keen to get answers!

Thank you for any advice xxx

How long have been TTC and how old are you?

The NHS guidance is to see the GP if TTC 6mths and you are over 35yrs, or TTC 12mths and under 35.

Despite the above, yes, I'd see you GP now for help with the anxiety, and also the TTC. They may not start tests for the TTC, but will hopefully start the ball rolling for the pains etc. You really need support for the anxiety if nothing else at this stage though. TTC, pregnancy, birth etc etc is stressful, and its not good if you are already this anxious. Best of luck.

@MarmiteCoriander thank you for that ! Yes I am under 35 so may have to wait, but you’re definitely right that the anxiety needs support … just hope they can offer relevant counciling etc! X

Can't remember what the LP stage is but I remember that I ovulate early and used to have two day periods. I have managed to get pregnant 4 times after age 38.

When I was 38 and we were trying to conceive I went to the GP after 8 months and she sent me for basic tests. I was convinced my short periods were the problem but no according the GP.

Keep tracking and we followed the rule of trying to be active in the days leading up to the ovulation date not just on ovulation day.

They won't do any assessment about fertility until a year has passed but will do assessment about pains

Cloud311 · 18/10/2022 21:51

Are you sure you know when you ovulate? I.e. you’re not just using an app? Could the pain be ovulation pain? It’s strange that it happens regularly 10 days before your period, and therefore before ovulation.

7 days LP is very short so I would get a progesterone test sorted (if not through your GP you can get one online but you’ll have to pay).

thank you for that! I haven’t been charting (using BBT) long so I’m trying OPK’s next cycle and really hope I’m wrong on the LP and have been over panicking. Def going to see Dr re odd pains based in the above xxx thank you all

@sapphire27d, I also have short LP naturally. I did my research and came across a natural supplement called vitex. I got pregnant with DS first cycle using it. Then again with my second pregnancy (unfortunately ended in loss but I think that was down to stopping vitex to soon after my positive test and then my progesterone dropping). Got pregnant again the following month and not weaned off the vitex as quick this time - I’m currently 7 weeks!

Cloud311 · 19/10/2022 10:36

Vitamin B6 is good for luteal phase, so make sure you have enough of that in your diet/ use supplements. BBT changes after you ovulate… not sure how you’ve been working it out but that may mean 1 extra day on your LP??
Also make sure you’re counting your first proper period as day 1 of your cycle and not counting spotting as the end of your LP 😊

good luck!

Thank you! Great tip re B vits and I’m hoping that when I get tracking properly it’s been a silly mistake in the counting … easy to over think and jump to conclusions during this stressful time, appreciate the advice x

I went to my GP after 5-6 months of TTC. I am under 35 years with a diagnosis of PCOS. First action was for my partner to provide a sperm specimen (he was horrified at the thought lol) but lucky for him at the time I saw my GP I was actually 1-2 weeks pregnant (obv didn’t know at the time) but found out a week later

Sapphire27d · 19/10/2022 20:06

@OrcaBlondie oh congratulations on the pregnancy, although it must have been worrying before hand!

good to know that the Dr didn’t make you wait for a year given the diagnosis x
