Weight gain in pregnancy

Hello everyone, just wondered what the normal weight gain is in pregnancy and if you all don’t mind sharing yours. Before I was pregnant I was very active and attended gym classes every week and ate healthy. Since being pregnant the first three months I was very sick and tired. Then I perked up and could get out more and now I’m back to being exhausted ans achy hips. With all this less exercise and carb overload I have gone from pre pregnancy 8 stone 4 to being 9 stone 8 at 24 weeks. Is this normal as I feel I’m gaining all over and don’t have a very big bump.

There is a really wide range of normal. The NHS doesn't even bother to recommend an amount of "correct" weight gain because there's no right amount really.

I seem to remember I put on about 3 stone in my first pregnancy. One stone came off immediately at birth (10lb baby + waters), one stone over the first month (extra blood, fluids etc), and one stone came off when I stopped breastfeeding.

I gained 2st in total with my first, I was very active weightlifting before and during my pregnancy. I'm currently 18 weeks with DS2 and have already gained 10lbs, I am slightly less active due to working and looking after a 4 year old which leaves a lot less time in the gym. I have terrible nausea in the first trimester which seemed to drag on this time round. I've only just stopped living off toast and crisps. I don't think there's a normal expectation but if the midwife is worried at any of your appointments she will get you checked. Enjoy your pregnancy, definitely try to stay active and you can worry about the weight afterwards. You'll be surprised how much you lose just giving birth, like PP a good stone will drop instantly.

I was a very slim 56kg and ended up getting to 80kg! It was mostly fluid I think and I was back to 56kg a year after giving birth, no diet or exercise involved.

Weight gain is totally normal and includes the foetus, fluids, your increased blood volume etc.

Enjoy your pregnancy, I miss my bump!
