I have had severe morning sickness the last few weeks but today has been the worst I have been vomiting non stop all day everytime I drink or try to eat, I took anti sick tablet and sicked it up, I ate dry toast and that came straight back up too, I'm so miserable I can't take this any more my legs feel so weak every time I stand up I can feel my leg muscles quivering, is there anything I can do at all midwife is no help just tells me it's normal this is my first pregnancy I am 9 weeks

Being that sick is not normal. You should see a gp

Riceyyyy · 15/10/2022 17:30

I did and the gp gave me cyclizine tablets but they work on and off and aren't 100% affective I'd say they only work 35%-40% of the time

Dehydration is your main thing to try to prevent. Can you suck on ice cubes? A little sip of water (I mean little) every 2 minutes?

Who is supporting you ,do you have a partner around?

Riceyyyy · 15/10/2022 17:32

I have my sister I will try ice cubes I never thought of that its a good idea

That sounds like you have hyperemesis, sometimes you need more than one sickness medication at the same time. I think you need to ring the gp back and tell them it isn’t working.

Sopharaway · 15/10/2022 17:35

The hospital might be able to prescribe other anti sickness medication that works differently. Tell your GP cyclizine isn't working.

ObviouslyNotAMandy · 15/10/2022 17:44

ugh I really feel for you, I was exactly the same… it was horrendous. As PP said, the main priority is to stave off dehydration as that can land you in hospital. I found sucking on frozen grapes quite helpful and the only food I could bare the thought of was smoked salmon, which is weirdly DS favourite food. I would insist on doctor appointment and try a few medications to see if any work (unfortunately, none did for me) but you need to be on gp’s radar regardless of what midwife says. Good luck

bananaorange00 · 15/10/2022 17:46

I was prescribed Prochlorperazine and it really helped. I still had sickness/ nausea but it helped me keep food and water down and get me out of the cycle of being hungry which made me feel more sick x

BeanieTeen · 15/10/2022 17:48

There are lots of different meds to try, cyclizine is first port of call and not really that strong or effective as other meds so see your GP again and ask to try something else.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 15/10/2022 17:49

It's not normal although many midwives are shockingly dismissive

Try to get GP appt for better drugs

In the mean time try to get you blood sugar up a bit with sips of juice and that might help you feel well enough to eat some toast

MotherOfCrocodiles · 15/10/2022 17:49

By the way week 9 is (statistically) the peak of the sickness for many women

tarheelbaby · 15/10/2022 18:05

Do go back to your GP for more help and medication. HG is well known and there should be lots they can do for you. I did not have it but my mother did and many others have too.

I agree with PP that, if you can do it, trying to reach a point you can eat is helpful b/c I found my (mild) morning sickness was triggered by low blood sugar and baby's need for calories. If I didn't eat a second breakfast by about 10:30, I felt sick all day.
That said, HG really needs meds so keep after your GP for help.

Riceyyyy · 15/10/2022 21:24

Yes I have also noticed if I let my self get too hungry there Is no recovery from the sickness and it causes me to vomit even more! I also have heart burn today the first time I ever had it in my life I got some rennies but they didn't work and I'm starting to think the heart burn is making me vomit more

Sipping on Pepsi max and mints helped the nausea a bit to me.

Prochlorperazine helped me. My GP refused to prescribe me anything other than Cyclizine.
Had a few hospital visits due to dehydration told them the cyclizine hadn’t worked and that GP had refused to give me anything else. So the ED pharmacist told me they would give me Prochlorperazine to try and if it worked I could buy it over the counter, which I did.

It is really horrible OP I totally sympathise. I was so sick for the first 20 weeks. Lost a stone and a half and still haven’t put all the weight back on (currently 35 weeks). At times it felt like I would never eat normally again! Fruit Ice lollies and crackers were the most I could manage during the worst of it.

Riceyyyy · 15/10/2022 23:09

Honestly feel like this Is going to put me off having more kids because I don't want to live in misery for months, today has been so bad, heartburn and non stop vomiting I also can't sleep because of the heartburn, and I really want to go asleep so bad so i can escape this nightmare!

Have you tried travel bands? Sounds daft with that level of sickness but they saved me. You can ask for omeprazole which is safe in pregnancy to take for the heartburn

Beanniebaby22 · 16/10/2022 07:54

Yes I had horrible heartburn aswell and was spending a fortune on Gaviscon. Only started omeprazole recently and it’s really helped.

jenn88 · 16/10/2022 08:15

Another vote for travel bands here!!
I had ginger biscuits by my bed and would nibble on one or two before I moved in the morning!
But it does sound a bit more than your average morning sickness!!

whiteroseredrose · 16/10/2022 09:02

Hand hold. I was sick until I gave birth to DD.

I got some tablets from the GP which worked....... but sent me to sleep. They were old fashioned travel sickness pills.

Never let yourself get too hungry, lots of little snacks and sips of water. And pink Gaviscon helped the heartburn more than anything else.

NC3435 · 16/10/2022 09:09

Ask your GP for domperidone. It's pro-motility so increases gut transit. The recommendation is not to take it regularly for more than a week because of the small risk of ECG changes. I'm using it atm for morning sickness but tend to only take it one days I have to go in to work. Cyclizine is first line but it causes gastric stasis so can make you feel worse as the food and drink just sits in your stomach and causes distension triggering nausea. Try and drink some coconut water so your electrolytes are topped up. If you think you're dehydrated (dry skin, dark urine, sweet smelling breath) then visit your local ED - you might need IV fluids.

Riceyyyy · 16/10/2022 11:05

Guys I really went to bed last night hoping today would be better but seems like its going to be just the same as yesterday woke up dry heaving but there was nothing in my stomach, so I drank some water and ate some digestive biscuits and withing 10 minutes I was running to to the toilet vomiting I'm definitely calling my GP tomorrow i can't deal with this anymore

thosethreewords · 16/10/2022 15:14

@Riceyyyy honestly? I would call 111 or go to a walk in centre and see if you can see a GP today. They can prescribe today, or if you are dehydrated, can admit you for fluids.
I am a GP and DH is a 111/ out of hours doctor and I honestly this is what out of hours services are for.

Moosh18 · 29/10/2022 06:47

@Riceyyyy hey, I'm sorry you are feeling so bad, did you find anything worked? I feel so sick I can't cope with it, I have an 18 month old and I feel like I'm ignoring her
