Giving birth a little early

Hello everyone

I got a call from the hospital to book me in for a caesarean when I will be 38+6. Which I know isn’t exactly majorly early but it seems a little early still. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have my baby as early as is safe.

Did anyone else have their baby early and all was fine?? (What stage did you have your baby)

Thanks x

I was scheduled for a c-section at 38 weeks but my baby came early and was born at 37 weeks. Was completely fine! He actually thrived better than his exactly on time sister did when I had her

DS was induced at 38 weeks, all fine. I preferred that to getting more and more uncomfy and irritated being over due.

Why is 39 weeks considered at term now? I always thought it was 37?

Nat6999 · 14/10/2022 20:20

I had ds at 36+5 by emcs after a 60 hour induced labour due to pre eclampsia. Quite frankly he was in better shape than I was, got full apgar scores & weighed 6lb 4oz.

Our trust aims for 39 weeks for planned sections, which your only one day before. I had DD at 39+1, she was a little smaller them my first (41+3) but absolutely fine.

Exactly the same x

I was induced at 38 weeks with my first, he was born at 38+2 in the end. He was fine!

Early term: 37 weeks, 0 days to 38 weeks, 6 days
Full term: 39 weeks, 0 days to 40 weeks, 6 days
Late term: 41 weeks, 0 days to 41 weeks, 6 days
Postterm: 42 weeks, 0 days and beyond

Back in May I was told my baby needed to come out at 37+1 due to amniotic fluid leakage. She was fine and a great weight! She did get jaundice though and needed light therapy for a couple of days but she’s been wonderful ever since. The very best of luck!

mondaytosunday · 14/10/2022 22:23

My sections were scheduled for about 38 weeks but my son decided he would come even earlier - just under 37 weeks. He was 4.65kg so still a whopper (and I'm positive about dates as I had my last period on my honeymoon).
My father was a doctor and said he relaxed after I hit 32 weeks as most babies would still be fine if born after that.

Dyra · 14/10/2022 23:17

Both mine have come before 38 weeks. Other than a mild touch of jaundice in each, they're both perfectly healthy. It's going to be absolutely fine.

Rainbowbub22 · 14/10/2022 23:41

I had my twins at 37 weeks due to pre eclampsia, both babies were fine weighing 5lb12 and 6lb12, slight jaundice but didn't require any special care

I had my baby at 38+6. Labour started naturally. It was a quick and easy birth - I can only hope I have the same experience second time around! He was 6lb 7oz. I wouldn't worry!

Demigibbo · 15/10/2022 10:43

@LT2 ty love x

If you're choosing a CS and don't want to try naturally I think they have to make it a bit early so you avoid labour starting before you have the op.

Demigibbo · 15/10/2022 14:55

@Zonder thank you, that makes sense 🙌🏾

I had my DS at exactly 38 weeks.
He weighed the same as his sister, who was born at 40 weeks.

He was fine. No issues at all.

Twizbe · 15/10/2022 15:02

My son came by himself at 38+6. He was 9lb 1 and very healthy. He still is :)

Ivyy · 15/10/2022 15:07

Yep dd was planned csection due to my health, and Drs said they'd wait til 38 weeks as basically full term / fully developed and she would just be gaining weight after that til 40 weeks +

Hey2021 · 15/10/2022 15:08

You Classed as full term, so please don’t worry that baby is coming early. I had my last baby at 36+4 and we were home the same day.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/10/2022 15:11

My dc came spontaneously at 36+5 and 39 +0 weeks. Both fine. DS was technically 2 days premature, but was fine.

mummyh2016 · 15/10/2022 15:31

Both my children were born at 38 weeks, both labours started spontaneously. I was home 12 hours later with DD (only had to stay that long because my waters went more than 24 hours before she was born) and 6 hours later with DS. Absolutely fine.

Demigibbo · 15/10/2022 15:46

Thank you everyone! Makes me feel a lot better! X
