I keep forgetting to take My folic acid! I remembered today but I think the last time I took it was about 3 days ago at first I took them daily then I started forgetting, ive become so sick lately vomiting, nausea, dry heaving, 24 hrs around the clock sickness, that I've tried everything for, even anti sick meds from dr, and I've also been extremely tired and as a result I've began forgetting my folic acid has anyone else forgotten like me and their baby ended up being OK?? I am 9 weeks pregnant

Of course. I didn't take any folic acid in my first pregnancy or any supplements at all. He's absolutely fine

ZeroFuchsGiven · 13/10/2022 16:36

Your baby will be fine! Put them next to your kettle then when you make a drink in the morning you will remember.

Set a reminder on your phone.

Sallyh87 · 13/10/2022 17:43

A lot of the bread and cereals that we commonly eat in the UK is infused with folic acid. That plus loads of other foods you are eating is giving you a good amount.

Obviously try to remember, but I don’t think the last few days will make much of a difference!

My pregnancy was unplanned so I was really concerned that I didn’t start taking any until 5 weeks. I spoke to my Dr who said most people with a healthy diet get enough anyway so not to worry.

The neural tube closes at 6ish weeks pregnant. I'm not sure folic acid is much use after that anyway.

I was the same with my second. She is still absolutely perfect!!!
Don't put pressure on yourself 🥰

Set a reminder on your phone to take it. Its very important in the first trimester as it makes things like spina bifida less likely.

LordMooey · 13/10/2022 19:42

...but on the other hand, spina bifida is unlikely in the first place. It can happen, and there's a clear way to reduce the risk, but that doesn't mean it's actually likely to happen if you don't take folic acid supplements.

I took them sporadically, when I remembered, and the worst thing that happened is that I have an annoying and now useless box of tablets lurking in my kitchen.

Just do your best, and try not to worry about it.

shivawn · 13/10/2022 20:14

You'll be fine, just try to take it from now on (until after the 12 week mark) and don't worry about the forgotten days.

MummyJ36 · 13/10/2022 20:40

I took about two folic acid tablets with my second DC. He arrived weighing in at a healthy 9lb 15oz at 39 weeks with no issues!!! I’m not saying don’t take them but I constantly forgot to take them second time around and really shouldn’t have worried so much.

Cw112 · 13/10/2022 23:32

I keep mine in a pillbox with the days of the week on it beside my bed with a bottle of water. I had hg until month 5 and it took me a while to work out when was the best time to take it that I could keep them down - for me it was at night right before I went to sleep. I also made a point of eating any foods rich in folic acid so I'd get the benefit of the little I was able to keep down. It's really hard when you're so sick and exhausted but your body will give its best to baby first and you second.

Barleysugar86 · 13/10/2022 23:39

I struggle with tablets so was patchy with mine - but so many foods have it in I'm sure you are getting some just from eating. Peas, eggs, cereal, bread, bananas, peanuts, avocado, spinach, broccoli, orange juice all have folic acid in :)

Thank u I have been eating alot of bread lately sandwiches are one of the few things that don't make me want to vomit
