Hey everyone, I'm just looking for some reassurance really that I haven't completely ruined my baby's chances of being healthy! My partner and I have been renovating our old (1950s) house. Throughout the first trimester (I didn't really think about the negative effects for the first 2 months, but kind of luckily morning sickness knocked me out and I couldn't work on the house from week 9-12) I was sanding, used paint stripper a couple of times, painted the walls, oiled the floors, mixed plaster and cement, lifted super heavy plaster board, furniture etc etc. Plus our house was so dirty and dusty (we haven't been living in it thank god). Even writing this I feel SO stupid for exposing myself to so many chemicals.

Had the 12 week scan and baby seems happy, a good weight and no issues they can see. I'm now 16 weeks and a lot more clued up on not using harsh chemicals or sanding, and just doing a bit of painting here and there.

I'm spiralling that I exposed the baby in it's most sensitive weeks to horrible chemicals and now it's going to be born with defects :( did anyone else put their little babe through this much only for it to be born miraculously fine?

I know there's no way of knowing until it's here but just wanted some reassurance/ opinions from other mums! xxx

I'm on my second pregnancy mid- renovation. I have a happy healthy 18 mo. Unless you're deliberately taking a big lungful every time or going around eating plaster dust and lead paint flakes your baby will probably be absolutely fine! I'd recommend being sensible, opening windows, wear a mask but that's all stuff you should do anyway. Lifting things is more likely to hurt you (loose pregnancy joints) than have any impact on your pregnancy.
