Hello everyone

I am new to this so bear with me

FTM here, unfortunately high risk pregnancy with me:( so I’m having to have a LOT of ultrasounds and I mean a lot. I know they’re medically necessary but I worry there may be a risk though doc says no

Has anyone else had a lot and their baby developed as normal as they got older??? Am I being silly?? How many did you all have??

By the end of my pregnancy I would have had around 16

@SummerInSun @HerculesMulligan @Waitwhat23 appreciate you all very much, thank you so much. I personally think birth marks are definitely more of a genetic thing but im no expert 😃

With DS2 around 18 if memory serves. We have private health (non-UK) so scans are every appointment.

scan at 5+6 (saw HB), scan at 6+5 (had a bleed), scan at 10, scan at 14, 18, 22, 26, 30.
Then I got seriously ill with D&V at 30 weeks and baby was in distress but they managed to keep him in. Was scanned multiple times that week I was in hospital.
After that was scanned every 2 weeks after that until he arrived at 38 weeks.

With DS1 I didn't have any issues (other than I grow small babies!)

Both babies were small (6lbs) but that's familial and we just don't have big babies.

My friend is a sonographer and she scanned herself regularly throughout all her pregnancies.
None of the children have any developmental issues or birthmarks.

@Strokethefurrywall thank you. Assuming your little ones developed all okay?

@TheMoops thank you :)

I had a lot. In the country I live in the gynaecologist scans every time you see them which is once a month to start and reduces to weekly by the end. I also had extra ones at the start due to bleeding. DS is fine and no birthmarks (can’t remember who asked that)

backatschool · 11/10/2022 15:29

1 per week from around 5 weeks. DS is now nearly 15 and all good!!

pinkycatmum · 11/10/2022 15:34

I had sooo many with my daughter. Can't even count. She's now 6 and perfectly healthy. I'm 16 weeks and high risk. I have some extra scans booked, not worried about it at all. I'm glad they're paying close attention and it means I get to see baby more. Try not to worry!

AriettyHomily · 11/10/2022 15:35

I had two sometime three a week up until 31
weeks when I delivered. My stepdads wife was pregnant with twins forever ago and didn't find out until they started xray ing to find out what was going on.

I don't think I've seen anything about risk outweighing benefit for scans.

Marmite27 · 11/10/2022 15:38

I had 18 extra scans, so twenty in total.

there is some anecdotal evidence more scans produces a left handed baby, but dc2 is resolutely right handed. They’re 4 now, and have suffered no ill effects.

best wishes with your pregnancy.

AriettyHomily · 11/10/2022 15:39

@Marmite27 what on earth would be the problem with being left handed?! And how would a scan using ultrasound have any bearing on that?

They are separate sentences. Not left handed. Now 4, no ill effects.

My mother and I are both left handed so I’m aware it’s not an issue, thanks.

If you read through the thread you’ll see several other posters have mentioned the link between extra scans and left-handedness. So I’m not sure why you’re choosing me to single out?

BadNomad · 11/10/2022 15:49

Ultrasounds do not use radiation. They do not cause harm or changes or left-handedness.

Thanks so much everyone. You’ve all reassured me so much and I am so grateful to everyone who has shared their experience. You’ve helped a very anxious mum to be xxx
