Double buggy or Buggy Board??

DD2 will be 2.4 years old when DS1 is born. she is quite independent and like DD1 who was walking everywhere on her own by 2.10yrs I am sort of aiming for the same. If we go out it is in the car and I have a small boot so double buggy is not going to fit. I tend to go shopping with DH anyway so I can take a fold up stroller for DD2 for those occassions.

Is it worth spending loads of money on a new pushchair or will a buggy board suffice for the rare occassions I will need it??? They look awkward to me, as though I will have to bend over them to push the pushchair.

Ohhhh and I forgot to ask...how stable are they??? Will DD2 have to hold on tight??? She only has one hand and so it would have to be relatively stable.

Hi, my DD will be similar age to your DD2- still needs/likes a ride in pram or stroller for longer journeys, but walks a lot- so I'm planning on using sling for new baby, and stroller/pram for shopping and/or DD (though even now we try to use it more for the shopping and talk in to walking more!). I'm hoping my DD won't actually need pram/stroller for that much longer, so I'm reckoning (well, hoping) to avoid investing in a buggy board (they're so expensive, even on ebay!) and couldn't contemplate a double buggy. So, would using a sling be another option for you?

I think it depends what you are going to do. I have 20mnth and near 3yo and still use the double buggy for long walks on my own. It is about a mile into town and couldn't expect the two year old to walk. Additionally, I think having a strappable location is very useful if you have tantrums whilst you are on your own. Its very difficult to move a tantruming toddler whilst you are pushing a buggy or wearing a sling. We had a buggy board for our bugaboo when DS1 was only 15 months. He was very happy on it. Sold it when we sold the bugaboo. We now ONLY use the double buggy or nothing.

hi,
my dd was 2.5m when ds born, after so many months of shall i shall i not i bought bugaboo cam and buggy board. at first it was all "wow i can stand on it" but it worn out quickly and it was hard for me to push buggy and hold onto dd. she hates reins we never used one. so i bought board seat. but not much difference.
dd havent used buggy since 20m, and she is really good walks everywhere, but its different when you have lo.it will be hard to handle older one if they try to continue to be independent as they were.
its ok when dh or someone else with me. i hardly go out for walk when im on my own. we do supermarket shopping or soft play etc..
im about to buy phil n teds, as i hope it will be less hassle when three of us need to go out. she can walk if she behave well, or she will sit in the buggy.
thats my experience. hope i helped you
diva,

I've seen buggy boards that are more like little steps that the child sits on rather than stands. I think kiddicare.com might sell them.

DS is two (today!), DD 11 weeks tmrw so smaller gap than you. I would second the comment about a 'strappable' secure location - if you have a really independent child this is essential, rather than just for travel. Especially if your toddler regresses a bit and wants to be carried like new baby. Personally, I've found a double essential (we've managed to get a Jane PowerTwin into the boot of a Corsa, but obv an expensive pushchair).

You could do sling for baby - can you use existing poushchair from birth? I've been out with our Loola, initially with DD in and DS walking, then when swapped them around with DD in sling later.

Diva - bought a new double in august last year despite knowing we didn't have very uch longer but my old double buggy was behaving like a dodgy trollwy and as the kids were getting heavier. I now have a Nipper 360 and it is FANTASTIC. I bought a second hand one on ebay and it was a dud so bought a new one and will sell it on ebay after I have finished. Really recommend this one for two toddlers.

dd2 will be 23 mths when this ones born and im using a bug with a board. she walks everywhere the only problem being if shes knackered and falls asleep when i pick dd1 up from school. dd1 didnt use a pushchair once she was 2 and used to walk fairly far so hopefully dd2 will be hapy with the board
