Has anyone had their covid booster whilst pregnant? I had all my others before getting pregnant now due my booster but I'm a bit concerned about effects on baby?

Watching with interest. I'm 26 weeks and in the same situation. Had the flu vaccine and whooping cough. Just undecided on covid

OooohAhhhh · 09/10/2022 10:19

I refused it whilst pregnant. They can say it's safe In pregnancy all they like but the reality is it hasn't been around long enough to know the effects, and it can't be tested on pregnant women in clinical trials for ethical reasons.

mummyh2016 · 09/10/2022 10:25

I had all 3 covid jabs during my pregnancy last year. Me and baby (now 8 months old) were absolutely fine.

PaisleyP · 09/10/2022 12:56

I've refused them all. I don't want to get covid so taking precautions but I don't want the jab either. Just felt very uneasy about it.

XYZ32 · 09/10/2022 12:57

I did, was fine an baby's fine ! X

AmyAW · 09/10/2022 15:48

Just had mine at 28 weeks. Been five days and the baby is wriggling around happily as I type!

I work in PR, and quite frankly, no pharmaceutical company would ever take a chance on giving pregnant women any medication if there was any doubt over its safety. It's why 99% of the face creams and medicines in our medical cabinet say pregnant people can't use them.

You'll be given a leaflet at the vaccination centre that explains over 100k pregnant women have now had the vaccine, and there is still no concern. What is a concern is catching covid, particularly in the third trimester. Easy choice in my eyes.

drinkwithanumbrellainit · 09/10/2022 15:58

Looking at some of the outcomes for women who have caught it in the third trimester I would definitely have taken it in my pregnancies. Appreciate easier to say when I'm not personally affected.

Mummyboy1 · 09/10/2022 16:03

I had first vaccine just after 13 weeks, wanted to be in my second trimester. I then had second vaccine in the third trimester. Second vaccine hit me hard, however I think I may have been coming down with a cold aswell. Both times were fine. And baby is currently napping in his cot, all fine

SouthwestSis · 09/10/2022 20:05

Had 2 of my covid vaccines whilst pregnant and my baby is 8m old and very healthy now!
I know catching covid whilst unvaccinated would have been far riskier for both me and him so glad I could get the protection of the jabs.

Nancy155 · 09/10/2022 20:14

I won’t be having the covid vaccine whilst pregnant. There is no evidence of the long term side effects that the vaccine can cause. It hasn’t been around long enough for that to be known. I wouldn’t give it to my young children so I won’t be giving it to my unborn baby.
its a very personal decision and there’s no wrong or right answer!

OtiMama · 09/10/2022 20:18

Personal choice but I have had it, having had covid prior to this booster but whilst pregnant that wasn't pleasant and I decided to take the extra protection.

I read today about covid potentially damaging the placenta and obviously the booster is meant to provide a level of protection in addition. That being said you can't win either way can you as equally there's only so much evidence of trials for pregnancy and the vaccine.

abbs1 · 09/10/2022 20:19

I had my booster (pfizer) at 25 weeks. Got a happy healthy 7 month old.
Other 2 vaccines i had before pregnancy.

sageandbasil · 09/10/2022 20:23

Ive now got a 10 month old but I had my second covid jab when i was 7 months pregnant. The midwife was v happy I had kit and I felt really reassured knowing I had extra protection

Cdoc · 09/10/2022 20:24

I had been undecided (I’ve had both doses and a booster pre pregnancy) and having had a miscarriage before I’ve been super nervous. Talked it through with the midwife and given how unwell some pregnant covid patients have been I will get it, but planning to book it for closer to the third trimester (I’m currently 19 weeks so hoping to have it after 28 weeks). She wasn’t pushy at all and said it’s entirely my choice, I just don’t like the risk of covid when heavily pregnant. Completely personal choice though

Berlinlover · 09/10/2022 20:37

I think you would be insane to get the Covid jab while pregnant. I got the Pfizer booster last February and haemorrhaged for two days. I’m 46 and don’t get periods anymore.

JonSnowsCloak · 09/10/2022 21:42

I had my booster (4th covid jab so far) and flu jab last week. Felt a bit fluey the day after and bit of a sore arm. I'm 34 weeks pregnant . I work for the NHS and know of several ladies at my trust who nearly died in their third trimester from covid. Its personal choice at the end of the day, I had covid early on in my pregnancy and it was awful and its more risky later on in pregnancy.

purplejungle · 09/10/2022 21:49

I've just had it at 28 weeks. I was nervous but there's so much evidence of the risks of covid in the third trimester I want to do everything to protect me and baby.

wishuponastar1988 · 09/10/2022 21:51

Nope I didn't have the booster when I was pregnant. Had covid (for the second time) when I was 36 weeks pregnant and was fine. Midwife supported my decision to not be vaccinated.

wishuponastar1988 · 09/10/2022 21:52

Sorry didn't finish. For me the long term implications for my baby were too sketchy and every midwife I saw had a different view. I was happy with my decision

toogoodforthisworld · 09/10/2022 21:54

I would definitely not take it. There is NO proof there will be no long term effects - and the side effects results so far haven't been as visible as they could have been.

Following as I am 26weeks and also nervous about this, had the first two vaccines but that's it, DC & partner currently have covid- i feel fine and my tests keep coming back negative (unsure how as we all been in the same house for the last week together) and I've had covid twice before, just so nervous about catching it in the last trimester because of all the horror stories you read 😢

Borgonzola · 09/10/2022 22:07

Yup, had it at 10 weeks, was fine.

Dacadactyl · 09/10/2022 22:11

No way in hell would i have it while pregnant. No one has any idea of long term effects on the babies as and when they grow up.

Hi @wishuponastar1988 , when you say every midwife had a different view, did some advise against the vaccine? Thanks

wishuponastar1988 · 09/10/2022 22:25

@Sallyh87 I had a couple who were adamant that I should have the booster however I equally saw 2 different midwives who told me that they agreed re the unknown implications for babies exposed to the vaccine and would support my decision to not have it. One told me that in her opinion, I had adequate antibodies against covid as I had it once already and had 2 vaccines previously and would recommend me considering having it after baby is born (due to the unknowns for baby).
