Scared of potentially undiagnosed gestational diabetes…

Ok… so I’ve never been tested for GD as didn’t meet any of the risk criteria and my urine has always been perfect at midwife apps.
had a scan at 32 weeks to check my low lying placenta and baby was measuring just over 4lbs - sonographer said everything was great and minus a slightly large head nothing out the ordinary.
I then attend my midwife appt at 36+3 and she thinks baby is breech so sends me for a presentation scan at 36+6. Baby isn’t breech but is now measuring big - 7lbs 14oz. All the measurements are proportionate tho, placenta is working well and fluid looks good. Sonographer says baby looks great but sends me off to chat to a consultant due to size and maybe not making it to term.
random consultant comes in who starts throwing diabetes about - says big baby like 5 times, books me in for an induction a week on Monday when I’m 38+3 and keeps mentioning shoulders getting Stuck and Emcs. asks me to book a midwife appt for next week and get a sweep - which I’ve booked.
ive been given a glucose monitor to test 4 times a day and I’ve been following a diet - readings been ok so far.

read online all the horrid complications from undiagnosed and uncontrolled GD (still birth, sickly baby etc) and now just panicking that this has perhaps been going on for ages and I’ve just been feeding the baby loads of carbs and glucose! Going to follow the gd diet best I can for ten day till my induction but honestly quite scared of any potential harms….

sorry for rambling 🙈

Some people just have bigger babies and that’s normal! If your readings are fine I wouldn’t worry at all.
I had a scan at 39 weeks and was told 9 pound 13 - refused C-section and induction but took a sweep, baby was born 4 days later 8 pound 6! The estimates are so inaccurate late on.
My brother was almost 10 pounds and was born vaginally no issues too, my mums mum also had 8 big babies, it’s just how we make them 😂

Oh and if you want evidence based info on induction and size of baby, etc, dr Sarah wickham is great!

Hey, I have GD, if you want to be extra careful and follow the GD diet just in case. I'd highly recommend the gestational diabetes Facebook page (run by gestational diabetes UK). Loads of great recipes and support. FWIW, my baby is measuring out of proportion around the abdomen, which I believe is a telltale sign of GD. Big in all measurements could just mean you naturally produce big babies.

All my babies were big. After no 1, I had to have fasting blood sugar tests regularly during every subsequent pregnancy, and they were always normal. I just have big babies. Only no 5 was induced, and that was because I was at 43 weeks - smallest of the lot, as it turned out because the baby was so postmature.

If you're testing 4 times a day and getting normal readings then that isn't uncontrolled GD, you would be seeing raised BG with frequent testing. If you had raised BG prior to the testing they would have found a level of glucose in your urine, which would have prompted them to do a GTT.
