Measuring a week behind… WORRIED

So I had an early scan 2 weeks ago. Assumed I would be 5 weeks, but measured 4.

I was called back for another scan 2 weeks later. Now measuring 6+3 with a heartbeat (so in line with the previous scan) but can’t see how I could be anything under 7+2. I’m so worried this is bad news.

the lady who did the scan wasn’t concerned at all and said the baby is so small there can be discrepancies… but I feel a week behind is a big chunk.

any one had a similar experience? Was it a positive outcome?

I’ve booked a private scan for 2 weeks time

@Mamatobear i was measuring 6 days behind for all of my scans (I’ve had quite a few, due to previous losses, my age and having a bit of bleeding at 5 weeks and going on the progesterone pessaries) until my latest scan where I was measuring bang on, at 10 weeks and 3 days. Baby was wriggling around lots, had a good heartbeat and had plenty of fluid around him/her.

I’ve ended up seeing 4 different sonographers, since my 5 week scan and non of them were concerned about measuring behind in the first 12 weeks so please try not to worry xx

I measured small all the way through, had lots of growth scans due to being high risk and the fact that she measured small - at 34 weeks my consultant decided she was just a small baby, and on my due date I gave birth to healthy 7lb (so not really small at all) baby.
Try not to worry. I know that's easier said than done 💐

@i83 oh that’s so good to hear, I’m glad it levelled out for you.

im trying to rationalise with myself but my anxiety is ridiculous this time round x

Mamatobear · 08/10/2022 13:21

@Allthegoodusernamesareused thank you 🤍 that’s good to know, the same happened with my son (but later on in pregnancy) measured small, I was going to be induced early, lucky I wasn’t as he was born a few days late and 7lbs 7oz 🤣

I know scans can be wrong but it still causes me so much anxiety 😅

Yep I'm another who was a week behind where I thought which must also have meant DH sperm lived a week before EMS - he's a lovely lively 10 year old now and pretty perfect 😍

Mamatobear · 08/10/2022 13:42

@custardbear ah that’s good to hear 😩 so glad there’s still hope for this baby

I am measuring 5 days behind LMP on an 8 week scan and then the 12 week one added a day to that, so 6 days behind. Was worried in the first trimester (last pregnancy ended in a MC but I was 2+ weeks off), baby is fine, 19 weeks now x

Mamatobear · 08/10/2022 15:51

@SiberFox ah that’s good to know! I’m glad it seems to be quite a common issue haha! Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy x

I measured two weeks behind, and that dropped to 11 days at my 12 week scan (which had to be pushed back 2 weeks). I was very worried but everything since then has been fine and due in a couple of weeks now.

My first was a week behind as well.

I went for what should have been a 12wk scan & sonographer measured baby at 10wks 2days. Booked me in for another scan in 2 weeks time & baby was measuring nearer 14wks.

I guess when they're that tiny it can be a bit tricky to be exact, depending somewhat on the position the baby is in.
Said baby is now an annoying delightful 6 year old.

Loulou1712 · 08/10/2022 20:16

Are you counting your dates based on your period? Or when you ovulated or when you dtd? These will likely all give slightly different dates - my point is it isn't an exact science. They moved my friends due date at her 12 week scan, she had an IVF baby so could literally pinpoint the day of "conception" lol x

Reallyreallyborednow · 08/10/2022 20:27

At this stage you’re measuring in mm. On a tiny squiggly fuzzy crunched up thing.

it isn’t an exact science. Go by LMP dates unless it’s clear you’re weeks out. But due date is +/- 2 weeks anyway so as long as you’re measuring somewhere between 5 and 9 weeks you’re in the ballpark.

to measure a week out is such a tiny amount. There’s a reason most growth charts start at 10 or 12 weeks, it’s not possible to measure accurately before that.

Thank you everyone, that’s given me lots more hope. I’m also so sick which I feel is a good sign, my only successful pregnancy was the one I was very sick during!

I used a sleepyhead pod thing and put it straight in the cot since newborn. I don't have space so cot was perfect for us. Baby is now 6 months and had no issues I just ensured baby is born. I also have no bumpers or anything as I think that's a risk but cot is more than fine

Birdie002 · 09/10/2022 09:06

^^ sorry wrong thread

However, I wouldn't worry about it. I know lots of people who measure behind or some even ahead. If your midwife is not concerned then know I'm sure everything g is well
