Static growth at 30+5

I had my first growth scan 2 weeks ago at 28+5, baby is just below 50th centile so they’re happy he is not a small baby (had 2 previous SGA babies-hence the growth scans this time). But after todays scan he is not following the line and they have said it’s static growth. I have an appointment in the morning to have a portable scanner scan(?), and a Doppler ultrasound. Does anyone have any light on what to expect? Consultant said today if tomorrows checks are okay then it will be another scan in 2 weeks and induced at 36 weeks, just looking for some reassurance!

I had low growth from 28 weeks and had these scans every 2 weeks towards the end of the pregnancy.

38 week scan showed growth but 40 week one showed the same as the 36 week one and I was induced the next day. My baby was indeed at the 36 week level, born at the 2nd percentile. We were lucky nothing happened in the 4 weeks of no growth. She was just bones, she must have been starving.

they did tests on my placenta throughout and they couldn’t see any blood flow impediments etc. the only thing is I had low pappa-a at that time, 0.45 at the 13 week scan, and I started taking the aspirin late at 16 week (it took 3 weeks to have an app with the doctor for the low Papp-a) plus they gave me only half of the dose (75mg) than gave me now (the current dr. told me the dose has been updated since my last pregnancy). Now I’m on it from 12 weeks. I’ve read a study that taking it from 16 weeks onwards doesn’t help the placenta, you need to start best at 12, or sometime before 16.

static growth means no growth. Not following the line means reduced growth compared to his previous growth rate. Ask them which one is it, also keep in mind scans are not accurate all the time.

your baby is bigger than mine and you don’t need to worry just now, it sounds like they will do a test of the function of the placenta. Having regular scans is good too and you have a plan in place. Just keep an eye on the baby movements and call them if you feel they are getting reduced.

hope it all goes well for you x
