Funny spells at 20 weeks

Hi everybody,

I've been having these "funny turns" for about 3 or 4 weeks now.
I come over all hot, flushed and shaky, my legs go weak and I'm light headed. It can last 5-10 minutes and I can't do anything other than sit down and ride it out, but they're happening in public and in places where I can't sit down and they're getting more frequent as time goes on, I'm worried I'm going to to pass out if I can't sit down.

My heart always seems to be racing and that's another way I can tell if one of these "funny turns" is coming on, it tends to start with palpitations and feeling sick and goes from there.

My main concern is it has happened in Asda, on a public bus and in a shop in town and I had Frazer with me so I'm worried about being so unwell in a vulnerable situation like that.

It's not low blood sugar because it has happened shortly after me finishing my dinner and a sugary snack.
My blood pressure has been fine throughout my entire pregnancy and was checked recently.

I'm really concerned.

Is this something any of you have heard of or experienced before?

Thanks in advance xx

I think you should see your doctor very soon about this!

Clotworry · 05/10/2022 15:36

Definitely see your doctor, I’ve been through something similar this week they may want to give you a blood test and an ECG

See your GP asap , I had everything under the sun wrong with me when I was pregnant but never had that.

Thank you all for your replies, I've spoken to my GP and they have advised me to speak to my midwife. I've done this and they are referring me for an ECG. So concerned 😩

Good luck. I'm 27 weeks so a bit further than you but I have the funny turns too. I almost passed out one time - called the midwives who told me just to go to sleep?! They're always useless... Thankfully it passed after an hour. But it makes my whole body shake, my heart is pounding, and I go completely pale. I hope you find out what's causing it for you - I have no idea for myself but it feels a lot like panic attacks I used to get when I was a teenager? Weird though because I'm not worried about anything and it comes out of nowhere. But I think having anxiety about anticipating the next time it's going to happen or if your in public and you get a funny turn is really hard. Can totally sympathise with you.

Out of curiousity have you are anything sweet before it's happened? I'm honestly not sure of the cause but sometimes I think maybe eating sweet things like chocolate brings it on for me? You say you had dinner and a sugary snack which is exactly what I had the first and worst time it came on for me, some dinner and then a bit of sugary cereal. I've tried cutting out chocolate for the past few days and stuck to bland cereal and it seems to have helped

Try not to worry yet OP, if they were super concerned they'd have you in hospital so quickly. They want to rule everything out so makes sense to start with the heart.

Hello I’m currently 23 weeks and been experiencing episodes like this, along with being sick and back pain. Been seen at triage and everything been normal bloods etc been told to rest 🤷🏼‍♀️
how did you get in did you ever find a cause ?

Alice4875 · 12/03/2024 10:14

I wonder what your blood pressure is whilst you are having one of these episodes. I suffered with dizzy and flushed episodes between 20-25 weeks and my blood pressure during an attack was very low but came up if I raised my legs and drank water. They have gone away now and I've not had any in over 6 weeks.
