Is there a limit on how many days they can keep you in hospital trying to induce you?.

Is there a limit on how many days they can keep you in hospital trying to induce you?.

I was 38 weeks when I went in on Sunday at 10am (I'm getting induced due to high BP and having a bigger baby). They tried to put in a balloon but couldn't. So I had the pessary put in instead.

Monday I had a prostin tablet put in (I was going to get another put in on the night but all inductions were cancelled just before I was due to get another tablet put in 😩).

Tuesday I had a second Prostin tablet put in, but they haven't examined me to see if its done anything or put another one in. They told me later on that they will make it a rest day.

Today will be day 4 in hospital and I'm supposed to be getting my third prostin tablet in (probably in the morning but who knows).

She said if the tablet doesn't work then they might want to try putting the balloon in.

It all just feels really dragged out and I'm just really sick of being here tbh 😩😥

Im another one who had long induction, awful labour then emergency c section.

I'd honestly advise anyone in similar boat (I'm obviously not in a medical position to do this!) Just to go straight to a planned c section. Much calmer and you won't be so exhausted.

6 days followed by foreceps.. followed by several months of serious physical and mental illness.

I'm just wondering about your high BP. How is your protein/pee? Is it literally just higher BP, or do you have other signs of PE?

Honestly, I would not go home with high BP, but ask just to have a complete PE work up, BP, reflexes (you know when they tap your knee caps etc, to see if you're too reactive), 24 hour urine test.

If no signs of PE, then ask to be discharged, and back every 2-3 days for BP etc.

Any signs of PE, crack on with a section. PE is one of the last causes of maternal mortality, and not to be messed with.

I would also ignore the stuff about baby size (has it measured large the entire last trimester?), but the thing about placenta is not quite right - after 41/42 weeks it becomes an issue.

I was told that the more of these you tick off the list -

It's your first baby,
You're white
You're over 35

the more likely it's not going to want to go anywhere until nearer 41 weeks! No idea how many of those you tick off.

Just wanted you to see there are some points on the way that you can decide/ask about before having to make a decision.

I went in at 40+3 for an induction, 2nd baby.

Wednesday morning had the gel, monitored every 4 hours. Had a second lot Thursday and a final third lot Friday. Nothing happened, contractions but didn't dilate beyond 2cm.

Had waters broken with epidural on the labour ward on Friday morning. Then nothing else happened after being on the drip, other than baby getting very distressed. By Saturday late evening I had only gotten to 6cm and was exhausted, and baby was distressed all the time.

We went to emergency section in the end. Wish I had gone for a c section straight away now. Recovery was harder because I was totally exhausted with +++ ketones in my urine as not allowed any food and no drinks besides clear fluids once the epidural had been started.

Speak to a doctor and weigh up the options.
