Blood thinners in pregnancy?

Has any one had to take them before?
Was told at the start I may need them due to recently being a smoker. I am not now, and haven't had them with my other 3 pregnancies (that was smoke free).

My BMI at booking was 30 something I've now lost 2 stone in weight and well under that.
At my 25 week midwife appt they said I wouldn't need them and didn't understand why, and today they have called and said a doctor will be calling me as I need to start them next week at 28 weeks due to a risk of blood clots Confused. Really confused as this is going back and forth but no one seems to know why?

There is a scoring system that is used to recommend LMWH to those at higher risk of developing blood clots during pregnancy. You have told me that you are a smoker (1 point) and have given birth to 3 children already (1 point). A bmi >30 or being older than 35 gives you additional points and anyone with a score >3 is recommended to take LMWH from 28 weeks and for 6 weeks afterwardspatient info vte

@khaa2091 None of that is applicable to me other than having 3 kids previously. Im not a smoker now for a long time. I am under 30 and my bmi is in the 20s?

If you are a recent ex smoker then your booking may have recorded you as a smoker. They will also be looking at your booking BMI , it’s unusual to lose significant weight during pregnancy.
You have probably been flagged as a check again at 28 weeks and then decide whether to recommend or not. On the info prob not.

@khaa2091 Not a recent smoker and I lose weight in all my pregnancies usually between 1-3 stones due to the sickness and just generally not eating much. They know I've lost weight and the midwife told me last week it wasn't needed. But today it's been put back under consultant care I'm very confused. can I decline them?

I don't think they will want you to take them once you have explained what your score actually is. I think it will be easier to go to the appointment, ask them to go through why they think you should be having the injections and then correct each point.

I toom them because of a previous dvt. Really easy to do.

I take aspirin as my last baby was classed as a small gestational age, so the aspirin helps the blood flow through the placenta
