I’m trying to find a good bottle steriliser but most a see all come with reviews of rust / limescale.

i had in my first pregnancy a advent one but after using it a few times the limescale builds up and smells burnt. I have looked more towards microwave ones but does anyone have a recommendation for a standalone one that doesn’t have issues ?

Following/bumping! I think I'm leaning towards a microwave one but hoping for some suggestions here..

We have a tommee tippee steam steriliser and live in a hard water area. If you are similar and have limescale build up but want to use one of these you need to descale them weekly. We use boots own baby descaler and do it every sunday. Takes 10 mins and all you do is follow instructions then rinse everything under the tap. If you want to avoid the only option really is using milton solution x

Should say we used it for well over a year before storing it and planning to use again after xmas so as long as the limescale is kept on top of it lasts a while

We got the tommee tippi microwave one. Never had any issues with it.

We love our Tommee Tippee UV stetiliser. We bought it after using the microwave one which took up a lot of time but we just wash them and bung them in the UV one which dries them too. Can't complain at all it saves so much time

I've just bought the same Avent microwave steam steriliser I used it with my DD 15 years ago. It was brilliant, no problems.
Got this one from Vinted 2nd hand for €6!

I got a tall Tupperware dish, and used Milton and water. Worked a treat.

IwillrunIwillfly · 03/10/2022 13:28

I've always used Milton and find it much less faff than microwaves etc

Another vote for Milton. All you have to do is remember to change the water every 24hrs and then you can add more as it gets washed. You just have to ensure that when you add something that you don’t take anything out and use it for a period of time (30 mins I think)

I have been looking at this, so if you put bottles etc in and then after 30 mins add something else then you have to wait for the 15 mins all over again?

We had the Tommee tippee one, it was fine the descaling one really isn’t that much of a faff, when we used to the bigger mam bottles they didn’t fit in so we brought the Dr Browns one which also dries the bottles, would recommend the Dr Browns one.

Hugasauras · 03/10/2022 17:59

Milton cold water is the least faff IMO. We just stored a bunch of stuff in it and just changed water once a day.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 03/10/2022 18:04

Milton cold water or mam bottles that your sterilise in the microwave themselves

OfMark87 · 03/10/2022 18:18

I've got the Milton one and it's soooo easy.

Had the tommee tippee steam steriliser with my first and hated it. Was so big and bulky too!

Betsyboo87 · 04/10/2022 13:03

@Emotionalmessy Yep so we used to just keep all our bottles in there all the time. We had the actual Milton bucket so we could fit quite a few in. As we washed them up we would add them in. If you’re going to need a bottle in those next 30 mins (or 15, can’t remember) then just take one out before you put the new ones in.

CLEAN STERILISER

Just tried this and Boom!

To clean the part that goes black and rusty looking where the water goes in the electric tommee Tiper steriliser- use white wine vinegar and water put the steriliser on- let cool and add more white wine vinegar and a damp soft cloth to scrub came up brand new. Sooo satisfied. Do this after each use to keep it sparkling.

Just had to share 😀 was ready to bin the thing ….
