Pram advice?

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice on prams - there just seems to be so many options out there! I’m looking for a ’happy medium’, I think, something that can handle parks/canal paths for example, but also can collapse fairly small to be able to fit on the back seat as it won’t be able to go in the boot (the dogs will be in there!), and is easy to manoeuvre round shops and in town.

Im hoping to use a sling for dog walks, and when baby is a bit older I will get an out n about for very rough terrain/dog walks, but I’m after some sort of travel system/pram that will do normal town trips, not too big and can handle park walks, slightly rough terrain. Also important to me that baby can stay parent facing beyond the bassinet stage. Any tips or advice? My head is spinning with it all!

Uppababies are good.

ecossegirl91 · 02/10/2022 17:15

I got a joolz hub +. Haven’t used it yet (due in 4weeks) but I had similar requirements to you - wanted decent wheels, parent/world facing seat and had to fold compact for my boot - Audi a1.
also heard good things about the mama and papas flip xt.

I have a Cybex Beezy. It’s not technically an all terrain buggy but it’s small, got good suspension and I’ve never had a problem with grass/gravel. We live rurally and I regularly walk into the nearest town via the long distance footpath (5 mile round trip). It is lie flat from birth and has car seat adaptors.

PurBal · 02/10/2022 17:27

Sorry, I missed the parent facing bit. The Beezy is world facing.

jadedspark · 02/10/2022 17:33

Not sure if it's as small as what you're after but I had the mamas and papas flip xt and loved it. Did lots of dog walking with it and it coped well on all terrains.

I used to live my Quinney but I bought that 15 years ago lol
I'd say make sure it fits in the car, easily collapses, you can adjust and change things like carry cot, attachments for car seat so you can lift the baby in the seat and put straight into the pram frame
I'd also suggest a colour that works for boys and girls as I chose red and did have a girl then boy so red was good for both
Oh and I'd also check it had a shopping net thingy at the bottom - invaluable!

Had an Uppababy from birth till 2.5. It was excellent. Handled different terrain. Changed it for a baby jogger as needed something with a bigger seat for a tall toddler. As much as I like the simple fold of the baby jogger I miss the big shopping basket which could fit anything and everything!

If I had a second I would get another Uppababy in a heartbeat (donated my old one to a baby bank as I got mine second hand and wanted someone who needed it to get it)

The Bugaboo Fox is a great option. Light, manoeuvrable, folds reasonably small, good suspension, large wheels for rougher terrain.

I have had many prams over my four children, and this was one of my favourites.

LauraA31 · 02/10/2022 18:19

We have ordered the Cosatto wow continental- we got the everything bundle so everything is included.
That’s supposed to be really good for all terrain because the wheels are puncture proof and the pram has suspension, it folds up small enough to go in the boot of my small car and the seat fitting can either face parents or away from parents as you can just swap it round- fits the pram any way :)

It was important for us too to have a pram which does it all, dog walks and normal day to day shopping or town walks, i tried the pram in the shop and it was so easy to push!
The seat fitting on the one we have got is suitable from birth too as it lays completely flat and has a newborn insert but it’s a bit open so i doubt we will use it straight away and will go for the bassinet instead 🙂

It’s not safe to drive around with it on the back seat. If you’re in a crash it will be a very heavy dangerous object flying around the car.

JenniferBarkley · 02/10/2022 18:25

Adore my uppababy vista. Bought for dd1 who's now 4.5, still used every weekend on longer walks for dd2 who's 2.5. Never felt the need of the fabled lightweight stroller - we actually have one for nursery that never gets used as the vista is so much nicer to push and has a huge basket. This morning it had changing bag, towels for playground, medicine bag, various dolls and teddies, two scooters and two helmets.

If you want something smaller check out the Cruz, numerous friends equally happy with it.

AliceinSlumberland · 02/10/2022 18:30

Thanks all for the great suggestions, really appreciate it and will hopefully go and have a look at some of them.

@Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas I’ll find some way of securing it, my dogs need to be secure too when driving so I don’t really have much of an option. I’m hoping I might be able to find one where the frame fits in the footwell as it’s quite a big car.

Bugaboo

wannabeamummysobad · 02/10/2022 19:36

We have a cybex gazelle which I absolutely love. It's parent and world facing, has great storage, all terrain wheels, folds easily in the boot and has great storage underneath and has a shopping basket. The only downside is it's not single hand fold.

However, I'm not here to make recommendations- just wanted to say whatever you buy make sure the toddler seat can lie flat completely (the cybex gazelle does). I bought the biggest bassinet/carrycot possible (part of the reason we bought the cybex) because we knew we were having a tall DD and at 3 months old can't fit in it anymore so had to transfer to pram mode. I lay flat at nap time and now DD is 5 months raise during walks. If we'd bought the smaller prams I'd have been so worried about having to transition sooner.

Abcdefu · 02/10/2022 19:37

I have an ickle bubba v4 stomps it does both parent and world facing. If you gonto a pram shop they let you try it in the car. Will the dogs be with you every time you go out?

whatthejuice · 02/10/2022 19:40

Another Uppababy Vista devotee.
It's been brilliant for both my kids. Just need it to last another year and then I will donate it to a local charity.
Excellent on all terrains, big basket underneath the seat, really durable, easy to fold up and out away etc...

AliceinSlumberland · 02/10/2022 19:43

More brilliant advice, thanks all. Ups ant sounds like a popular choice!

@wannabeamummysobad you know I hadn’t even thought about that, so that’s really helpful, thank you, definitely something I’ll consider.

@Abcdefu no definitely not all the time but they have fitted crash tested cages in the boot which would be a PIA to take out every time I needed to put the pram in! Long term we’ll likely get a second car to account for trips out with bikes etc but not something we can afford for a little while.

My biggest recommendation is to make sure you get one that'll fold down with the seat unit on it (once babies out of bassinet, if you choose to use a bassinet) we have the egg, which is lush and so easy to push on lumpy ground etc but it's huge and takes up so much space. If I was able to buy again I'd get something like the mamma's and papped occara which folds down in 1, lays really flat and is also upright enough for when babies a toddler.
We've gone with a double gt city mini with air tyres this time as my toddler will so ride, and we have car seat adapters and a carrycot for babies side. x
