Married to the NHS, anyone else in the same boat?

Anyone else non-medical but with a medical partner? Anyone else wondering how the NHS is going to look after them and their baby when all they hear are dismal stories? Am 21 weeks down the line and wondering if I am the only happy, sane person surrounded by unhappy Dr's and Nurses telling me how bad the NHS is (and how can I be sane when I have so many hormones sloshing round inside me?!)

No denying that the NHS is in a sorry state, and some staff are disillusioned or un-interested, but I have had 3 births on the NHS and have been looked after by wonderful, caring, dedicated professionals.

All you hear are dismal stories...not much drama in "Oh, by the way, I attended a perfectly normal birth today. Mum and baby are doing fine." So that's why you don't tend to hear the simple happy stories.

I dont work for the NHS yet but am a student nurse- I can honestly say that in the area that I am training in (mental health), I have come across no negativity. Everyone appears to love their jobs- I cant wait until I qualify.

Yay! Good to hear from some happy NHS people for a change. Am annoyed (and slightly scared) by all the negativity in the papers today - I know that the people I have my check ups with are doing their best but are let down by their employer all too often.

I work for the NHS- pay and conditions are rubbish/going to be rubbish when pay protection ends (GRRRRR agenda for change!)but I enjoy my job and expect working privately would be even worse, with even higher expectations to try to meet!!
At the end of the day, I can pay my bills and work a bit less than full time so I can play with DD one day too. That keeps me happy so I can almost be nice to people at work ( that's staff, its easier to be nice to patients). Don't worry, I'm not a midwife!!!!They do an amazing job!

my dh would agree with you about bieng married to the NHS!
I am now part time and not so dedicated and do not put in loads of hours any more.
i do still love my job tho.

i totally agree with mumofk - i also work for the nhs, get paid peanuts but wouldnt do anything else! i do three 12hr shifts so ds only goes to nursery 2 days a week. in my experience nurses love their jobs (are dedicated) where doctors are more transient and move jobs more frequently.
