Dating scan issue or something wrong?

Hi All, hoping for some similar experiences to reassure me whilst I wait for a consultant call next week. We were fairly sure I was 12 weeks to the day at the dating scan (I'd been tracking ovulation for a year although not the two months prior to conceiving and my cycle only varied by a day. Also my husband weekly commutes so we know when we what dates we could have conceived) but they dated the twins at 13wk3days. That would have meant a very short cycle and ovulating waaay sooner than I had in the past year. At the 16 weeks scan the twins are measuring small (having been measuring large at 12 weeks). My instinct is there is something shifty about the dates as we've always been unsure of that but is that realistic or am I just comforting myself? Obviously restricted growth is an issue especially for placenta sharing twins so I'm worried its something more serious :/ My son was 80th percentile and I have no risk factors for them being small except it being twins but that apparently shouldn't impact size until later. If we go by the original EDD they'd be slap bang in average percentile. Everything else looked good on the scans and they were both kicking away so had lots of energy. Has anyone experienced anything simliar? Or ever had their EDD changed back? Is that a thing? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom or comfort whilst I get through the weekend waiting for the consultant appointment.

I haven't experienced this but I would make sure the consultant knows that your estimated conception places them earlier than your 12 week scan did. I do think it's very possible they just measured a bit big at 12 wks!

Both my babies measured big at 12 weeks (I knew when I ovulated and the scans put them 5 days further advanced than my own EDD) and then on the small side (going by scan dates, or average going by mine) at 20 weeks. Both were more or less on the 50th percentile at birth. So yes, it happens, for sure. Try not to worry! It’s probably all fine.

Thank you, I have mentioned it before and will again at the next scan. Just dont want any decisions or assumptions about their grown, if the dates are wrong (but equally dont want to miss any issues because they just assume its that! Tricky balance...)
