What's your relationship with your Bump?

I am 29+5 wks pg and wonder if I should be "doing more" with my bump. I dont mean trying to teach her French or hothousing, more talking to her or singing (not that I can!) I like my surroundings to be on the quiet and worry she'll grow up intolerant of noise like me!

Discomfort aside I am enjoying the pg and the feeling I am carrying this little girl who is really quite active, esp late evening.

How do you treat your bump?

That should read "I like my surroundings to be on the quiet side"

i am as pg as you. i rarely get a minute to think about it TBH, she is my third baby.

Quite often i stroke her though, and talk to her when she is kicking alot to calm her down. I especially like having a bath because i get quiet onding time with her.

Are you on our AN thread?? April

I like to give my bump a little pat whenever it moves - I read somewhere that the LO can feel it (and enjoys it) when you rub it.

As for talking, I have a v. chatty colleague and am quite quiet at work so am planning to do some reading aloud when I'm on mat leave so that the LO does recognise me as its mummy and not my colleague!

Have tried a couple of times to play the piano but I don't think it's liked it particularly.

I am 34 weeks today, and play a lot with LO. He is clearly quite big now, so I can tell how he reacts to strokes, pats, etc. I think he also teases me sometimes with pinching my tummy. He also follows my hand with his (quite considerable) bum.
But I do not read to him, just smilarly to Scorpio talk to him to reassure him. He prefers his Dad's voice anyway, or maybe he can hear him less often, so it is more interesting.
As for singing I go to my antenatal classes to the Sage Gateshead, which is kind of like an opera house or concert hall. During the classes we have 1-hour of exercises, 1/2 hour of singing to bump and 1/2 hour of chatting. I have absolutely no singing voice, but he got used to it now. In the beginning he was not quite sure where we were though.
You are the best person to decide how to interact with her. It does not have to be talking. She knows when she has your attention anyway.

I did some choral singing and I swear that one modern song we did (think humming, whistling and sighing!) made my bump grow noticably. I think he likes Louis Armstrong too. ANd I pat him.

I think I have rather neglected mine, and moaned about it far to much.

With ds1 I patted the bump, wished it goodnight before going to sleep etc, said 'hello' when it was leaping around. With this one, erm, nothing ...

Bump 2 will know all the words to every Hairy Maclary story by now though.

That is so sweet!
I know the Sage well as my DP is from NE. Lucky you!
I touch/stroke my Bump quite a bit. Sometimes there is a firm bit at top of my bump - not sure if it is her foot/elbow/knee but enjoy poking it and feeling it move.

Would love to know how she is lying and how much room she has to move - cant be too much at 29+ weeks!

I talk, read stories to, sing to and pat/rub bump! DH reads stories to bump as he feels weird talking to bump but he def wants bump to know his voice when bump arrives! DH also pats/rubs/kisses bump a lot - not that I think bump knows the difference, but def reacts to DH voice. Read somewhere that bumps can hear mens voices better due the pitch.

Amazing! I knew of course that babies kick in the womb, but I guess I had envisaged kicks out of nowhere so to speak, not that I would get to know what my baby likes and hates, know when he would move and how, play games where he tries his hardest to work anything at all (but in particular the TV remote and his daddy's arm) off his bump. Like gingercat I spend time sitting still while he pokes his bum or his knees in my hand. He responds to daddy's voice, particularly when daddy was preaching the other night through a microphone and baby would not stop bouncing until he was finished.

Ok, enough gushing hands-up if you guessed in 3 seconds that this is a much wanted first baby .

BearMama · 25/01/2008 17:18

Aww madmouse how many wks are you? Will have to try that remote control thing and see if she has any preference for TV shows

Hi Bearmama, I am just over 39 weeks. I put the remote on the top of my bump where his bum and knees are. Always works . A friend of mine got her baby to shoot maltesers off, but how he felt those??

BearMama · 26/01/2008 12:22

Lol madmouse just like in the advert!
