Hi all.

My waters broke today and I have no contractions. Midwife assessment me today and said if nothing tonight I'll have induce tomorrow mid day. I'm really worried about the risks? Please can someone who's more experienced / had one explain the risks and is it worth doing it?? I'm only 39 weeks, my waters broke, they said high risk of infection if I don't have induce?

Thanks xx

Im not expert but just came to say I had the same scenario. I was induced after my waters broke at 37 weeks, they explained my options which included letting things continue naturally but with an increased infection risk for baby the longer I was left post 24 hour mark or inducing labour if nothing progressed over the 24 hours to avoid this risk. I chose induction which was started about 25 hours after waters broke by the time everything was set up as I was fearful of the infection risk but I felt reassured that my baby was at term. Baby arrived safely. Wishing you all the best. You have a choice and don't be afraid to ask them to explain the options to you if you think it will help you.

My experience was pretty much the same as @Whatthejackdawsaw , waters went at 37+5, no contractions and went back in 24 hours later to be induced. All went well and baby was born just over 36 hours after my waters first went. I had to stay in an extra 8 (I think!) hours to have extra monitoring due to the risks of waters having gone more than 24 hours previously but baby was fine and we were home later the same day.

Same happened to me. They like to induce as once the waters go I don't think there's much protection around the baby to protect from possible infections that can be so dangerous. You might find as the waters have gone it'll be quicker. Good luck

Yes once waters have gone they give you 24hrs as the chance of infection risk is higher.

I had an induction and had my waters broke once I hit 3cm. Once my waters had broke I actually dilated to 10 in 1.5hrs.

Just remember you can say no to anything you are not comfortable with.
Inductions can take days and I would be asking how long they would let you be induced before it would become a C-section. Least you know where you stand then

Good luck! X

An increased risk of infection means increased risk the baby could become unwell and need an intravenous drip after birth for antibiotics.
I would take the induction!

If you're waters have already broken then I'm not sure why they're waiting that long to induce. From waters breaking till my baby was out after 32 hours later I managed to pick up an infection, which was passed onto my baby. Depending on your body an induction can take hours/ days, would be good to ask how long they'll give you to give birth without a c section
