IVF success stories with fewer than five follicles? Please share if so

[Decaffe]

Hi all, I’m sitting here in my car crying my eyes out because at my scan appointment it looks like I only have five viable follicles. I know they won’t all necessarily have an egg in / be collected, and then there’ll be further attrition at the fertilisation and development stage.

I’m absolutely broken hearted because previous AFC scans have shown nine or ten follicles. I didn’t realise that stims would actually reduce this number!

Do I have any hope at all?

@IVFitis @SH998 thanks for your wishes. I cracked and tested a day early, it was negative. BFN. Out of the hope zone and into the grief one. I took myself to the beach and shared chips with the dog. I’ll be ok, just need to process it all x

3 eggs, two got to transfer, one is my son. I was devastated too (we had male factor infertility supposedly, I had thought I was fine) but it really does only take one.

Hey love, just to echo everyone else, it really does only take one. I had an AFC of 4, and a long protocol resulting in 2 follicles, 1 egg. That little egg got fertilised , survived to day 5, and implanted! (I did have a miscarriage at 9 weeks but I was unlucky). My acupuncturist has 4 follicles, two low quality embryos, and she has 13 year old twins. It can happen :) x

Also more praise here for dogs, my dog is my absolute world and he really really helps (even if its dragging me out for a walk in the rain!) X

On my final scan before trigger shot I was told I only had 10 follicles but only 4 were viable and was advised our chances of getting to transfer were low and we were asked if we wanted to abandon the cycle and try again next year. Me and my husband decided to risk it and use our only nhs funded cycle even if our chances were rubbish. On egg retrieval day they tried to collect from 8 follicles and managed to collect 5 eggs but only 3 were mature. Only 2 of those fertilised and by day 3 we only had 1 surviving embryo. We made it to transfer on day 3 which went well but given all the bad luck we had up till that point we were prepared for it not to work. We just got our BFP last week and we are over the moon! It really is true.... it only takes one!! Good luck I have my fingers crossed for you! Xxx

Hi there, this is a positive story. Please can you share (if you remember) what size they were at collection? I also only have 2, so really want to hear some inspirational stories!
