Breech baby bump smaller? 33 weeks pregnant

Hey guys! I was just wondering, if baby is breech is the bump smaller? I’m not worried about the size of my baby as I had a growth scan at 31 weeks (I’m now 33+3), and baby was measuring on the 97th centile so quite big. Also, he’s been moving a lot recently so I’m not worried. But is it normal for a breech baby bump to be smaller than if he was head down?

Pretty sure my bump doesn’t look that big even though I’m 33 weeks! It’s my first baby btw. I’m constantly feeling movements so I just wonder why isn’t bump growing that big if baby was over 4 pounds 2 and a half weeks ago 😂

Bump?

I twice had a small bump, but my babies were back to back and not breech.

Hopefully if yours is breech it would have been picked up by now. Possibly ask your midwife.

dreamerkr · 24/09/2022 21:15

I mean it’s not that small but compared to others, it’s small. Baby’s been breech since 27 weeks, I’ve been having growth scans since then because I have gestational diabetes. Any ideas on how to make baby turn?

I had a small breech bump but my son was 7lb 4.5 ounces when delivered so I think he was squished up inside me.

When mine went into breech position its growth measured as tailing off enough to trigger a growth scan check, was told by the midwife that yes, being breech can result in a smaller measurement. Just had ECV to turn her the head down and my bump's now freaking massive, fully expecting another abnormal growth measurement at my next midwife appointment on Tuesday haha!

You can’t win!

@dreamerkr first baby was breech and delivered by ELCS at 37+2 weighing 8lb8 - bumps was small. This one also breech (I must just grow breeches!) and my bump doesn't look big again either at 35+5. I put it down to strong abs as my internal organs feel really crushed!

dreamerkr · 25/09/2022 13:29

Thanks guys!

@Weathergirl1 im not really worried about baby’s weight because he’s been measuring big constantly from 27 weeks, but I was just thinking if he’s actually this big then where’s the bump 😂 he must be squished up in there too. I can’t even sit comfortably on the sofa because his head is so high up my organs feel crushed too!

dreamerkr · 25/09/2022 13:32

@Weathergirl1 if you don’t mind me asking, why did you have your c-section at 37 weeks? I was just wondering because I have GD and I have my consultant appointment at 36 weeks so just wondering what they’ll say.

Well they are squished up in there? Stop comparing your bump to others, every body and pregnancy is different.

2021mumma · 25/09/2022 13:49

Has baby moved again? My baby was transverse so lying across my belly, my bump was noticeable smaller

That’s true but I hate when people comment on how small my bump is 😣

I actually sometimes feel like he’s transverse and sometimes breech, because baby kicks usually low down or in my sides.

@dreamerkr no worries - I had PPROM at nearly 35 weeks. Wasn't a gush, just a slow leak (had to wear incontinence pads until the ELCS - made me determined to do Kegels so not need to ever wear those again!) but obviously there's an infection risk so they wanted him out around 37 weeks. His head was properly wedged in under my left ribs - was so uncomfortable! This time, the baby is a bit less wedged and the head moves sideways sometimes or a bit lower, so hopefully will be a bit easier to get out when it comes to the caesarean!

Oh and I can completely sympathise with low seats being uncomfortable - I mostly sit on a dining chair with a cushion or the office chair at the desk. Even the waiting room chairs in the hospital are crappily low...

dreamerkr · 25/09/2022 16:07

@Weathergirl1 hope all is well with this pregnancy! How far along are you? X

Weathergirl1 · 25/09/2022 16:38

@dreamerkr oh thank you. I'm 36 weeks tomorrow! No leaking fluid this time, but this pregnancy has been awful compared to the last one - severe nausea which I'm still medicated for (didn't have any of that last time!) and pain in my SI joint/sciatica. If it's not one thing it's another! No swollen right foot yet either which appeared at around 34 weeks last time, fingers crossed 🤞

barneymcgroo · 25/09/2022 16:50

I had a breech with my first. Small bump, but I'm tall, and I have a small bump with this one too.

Try not sitting on the sofa - it makes a sort of cradle for your baby to be breech in. I have a massive yoga ball to sit on. For baby to turn, try looking at the spinning babies website. You want sitting positions that are Upright, Forward and Open (I think I sat on the sofa far too much with number one, but could easily be coincidental).

dreamerkr · 25/09/2022 16:54

@Weathergirl1 not long to go then! Aww, have you had an appointment with your consultant yet?

OP posts:
dreamerkr · 25/09/2022 16:56

@barneymcgroo im short and have a small bump haha, but baby’s movements seem all good and normal.

Oh, I had no idea! I don’t sit that much on a sofa because it’s difficult for me, I sink into the sofa our sofa is weird 😂 I will definitely check out the spinning babies website, thank you!

@dreamerkr I had a telephone appointment at 20 weeks which was when I got the ELCS date (was 95% sure I wanted another caesarean anyway as I also have tokophobia and a previous section made it less likely i'd be able to have a hands off birth in the birth centre and I do not want to go anywhere near the delivery unit)! Not had another consultant appointment since though!

The breech presentation (and low lying placenta - we don't think it's previa as it wasn't at 20 weeks but can't see the edge of it as the baby's bottom is in the way 🤦) hopefully will make it a bit quicker for them to get me to theatre straight away if labour starts in advance 🤞

dreamerkr · 25/09/2022 17:05

@Weathergirl1 oh! At how many weeks is your c-section? I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be needing a c-section too, and probably a bit earlier as baby was measuring over 4lb at 31 weeks.

OP posts:
Weathergirl1 · 25/09/2022 17:25

@dreamerkr 39 weeks according to the dating scan (which is standard for ELCS booking), but 38+2 by my ovulation date which is what I'm counting by. I didn't bother to argue about the dating scan this time around as it meant the ELCS would be a bit earlier and I wouldn't have to be pregnant for as long!
