I AM grateful but... (Freecycle rant)

Anyone who read my earlier thread will know I was panicking about having enough money to buy stuff. All you Mumsnetters were v. helpful and sympathetic (Fifisworld I have replied to you) and since then I have got into Freecycle and got a breast pump and a couple of other really lovely things.
And then I got two other things. One stank of cat pee (even after I washed it) and the other, a buggy, was damaged, ripped with a wonky wheel.

The buggy had been described as "good condition". There was no mention of the cat smell on the other thing.

I KNOW beggars can't be choosers and I AM grateful but when you have to go drive to the other side of town to get something and it turns out to be just fit for the bin it makes me so . I dont mind if something needs a clean but damaged and indelibly stinking. I wouldnt insult someone. One day I'll be in a position to give stuff away but at least I'll be honest about what condition it's in.

Quite right BearMama You can't use something that's stinking of cat pee (how horrible!) or a buggy that is broken.

tyaca · 24/01/2008 18:45

personally i just cant stand the number of blooming emails ...

itsahardknocklife · 24/01/2008 18:54

BearMama, whereabouts are you? I have a pushchair that may end up being Freecycled - and it doesn't smell of cat wee and isn't broken.

BearMama · 24/01/2008 18:57

Am in Edinburgh IAHKL - thanks for your consideration!

Oh that's grim and disappointing - but I'm sure other prams will come up - hope you get lucky there

MegaLegs · 24/01/2008 19:02

BearMama - know what you mean. It has it's ups and downs. Yesterday I spent the morning dismantling and then transporting a shed that was too rotten to put back together (and it was full ofd hooj loofahs) but today I was given several metres of very nice Laura Ashley fabric, enough to make covers for two really nice arm chairs I got off f/cycle a few months ago.

I have some cot blankets and a few bits and would love to pass them on to a good home. Let me know if you'd like them.

MegaLegs · 24/01/2008 19:03

its not it's (I always do that!)

itsahardknocklife · 24/01/2008 19:07

oh we are in Yorkshire! Nevermind - keep looking!
Have you tried efreeko.co.uk - I doubt if you'd get a pram on there but lots of baby clothes and toys at the mo, all free for postage.

BearMama · 24/01/2008 19:17

IAHKL - Thanks anyway! Hope you find an appreciative taker

Megalegs - Thanks for your kind offer - are you in Edinburgh? If not I'd be happy to offer postage (maybe thru paypal?). See the FAO Bearmama post for my email addy.

Am relieved not to be slated for complaining. Also cheesed off because DP is getting less and less enamoured with driving me round to pick up useless tat. Cant blame him really...

BearMama · 24/01/2008 19:19

itsahardknocklife · 24/01/2008 19:22

Congrats! I had a few little boys bits left that I was going to offer you, but they are all blue! Check out that website tho, quite a bit of girls stuff.

BearMama · 24/01/2008 19:24

I will - thanks!

I'll have a search see what I can find. Don't worry about the postage, I'm happy to be passing it on.

cali · 24/01/2008 19:53

BearMama, I've got a box of cotton bottom nappies, most of which have never been used. DD1 was allergic to what I was using to clean them so at most I have a couple that I used for 2 days.
I've got several wraps to go with them and they have been sitting in my garage for over a year so if you would like them you can have them.
We live in Dunfermline but I'm from Edinburgh so could arrange to drop them off. I like to escape across the bridge as much as possible

whomovedmychocolate · 24/01/2008 20:01

Bearmama - what was it that smelled of cat pee? You can get rid of the cat pee smell by soaking in biological washing powder dissolved in boiling water - for about twelve hours.

People do freecycle some rubbish though. I'm always very clear if something is broken or crap. I've posted: offered: absolutely hideous carpet, looks like someone ran over rupert to make the pattern, needs cleaning as person who used to own house had incontinent dog. Someone still wanted it but they knew what they were getting and I was prepared for them to come and say they didn't want it after all.

BearMama · 24/01/2008 21:28

cali - do you mean re-usables (sorry for ignorance)
WMMC - It was a raincover for the buggy - it was filthy too. Afraid I binned it in disgust after taking it out of the washing machine and finding out it STILL stank!

OP posts:
cali · 24/01/2008 21:39

Yes, they are re-usables - sorry should have said

whomovedmychocolate · 24/01/2008 21:45

Ah - oh well. Cats do like to spray plastic!

BearMama · 24/01/2008 22:20

Cali, that would be great as I would like to give reusables a try.
When are you next in Edinburgh? Feel free to mail on the address above if you would like to meet up.

WMMC - it was also the thought it had just been left lying around to BE sprayed YEUCH.
