Absolutely dreading telling my employer

I’ve been at my place of employment for just over a year. My boss is a female slightly younger than me. We’re a tiny and overworked team and I know she’s going to be furious.

She’s very disorganized and this is obviously going to be an administrative nightmare for her (finding mat leave cover etc). I’m also worried about repercussions.

Any words of advice welcome.

(I’m the only one on the team with kids btw)

Don't stress, you have rights and you are entitled to maternity leave and pay. If she kicks up a fuss look up ACAS but cross that bridge if you come to it

The only advice I can give is to detatch yourself from it. It's a business, its not your life, when you are on mat leave and your only focus is on your baby that's what you'll care about and work will be forgotten about.

Rip that band-aid off! Good luck.

She sounds like a dreadful manager OP. I agree with PP about detaching yourself from your manager’s/team’s problems - these are not your responsibility and you can’t do anything about them, your manager just has to grow up. You have to look after yourself and your baby above anything else and avoid stress. You might also consider finding a job with a better team culture after your mat leave? There are better employers/managers out there.. x
