Hi, nearly 25 weeks and reality is kicking in that before I know it we have to give birth!!!!! As I'm classed As a geriatric mother I may be having a c section for one of a few reasons, both my other births were natural.
Anyone have any advice for either???

Hey! Oh my gosh I definitely had this - I worked myself up so much about giving birth that I ended up choosing to have an elective c section. It was the best experience ever and I would 100000% choose to have one again.

It wasn’t easy, and of course it was uncomfortable and painful but I loved how in control I was of the situation. Of course, it isn’t for everyone but I’m so glad I chose this route! X

I am forever grateful to my breech baby and the resulting ELCS! It was, as these things go, a good experience.

I was going to say this is my second pregnancy and giving birth scares me the least but just realised it’s not your first either! Honestly the idea of doing the newborn phase feels worse to me. Just think that with the birth there is a definite end point - when you give birth. Once it is done then it is done and you never have to do it again.

Thank-you so much, I'm so glad I'm not alone in feeling this way.

I would always go for a natural birth unless you have any medical need for a caesarean, especially as you have already had two natural births. I have given birth twice and found it to be totally fine. I would choose that every day over having a mahout operation and the recovery from that.

Lucky for you- yes, luck. Thousands of women suffer birth trauma, tears, ptsd, the list is bloody endless.

Absolutely agree with you if I hadn't had issues with both my natural births before, first my daughter was back to back and struggled to come out resulting in nearly emergency c section. My second my son was also back to back and got stuck resulting in episiotomy and forceps. Daughter was 8lbs 10oz and son was 9lb 5oz so I am concerned what this one will bring.

Hello! I'm 6 weeks out of an elective section. I chose this as I lost my first baby last year at 33 weeks and felt a natural delivery would be too traumatic.
I was terrified as I approach the section date, but honestly, it was the most beautiful experience. There was music playing and it was a really relaxed environment. My little girl was out within about 5 minutes, and the surgeon let my husband watch her be lifted out and film it too. The recovery for myself went really well, my scar has healed fantastically. I probably pushed myself to try and be 'normal' again too quickly, but within 2 weeks I was walking about and driving again. My advice is to just keep on top of pain relief and ask for help if you need it.
Also there were some things that nobody told me about and so concerned me, but turns out it's totally normal. Firstly, my right side was quite painful until last week (still occasionally sore today, but not as bad). This is because the lead surgeon was at the right side of me and apparently they do more pulling and tugging at that side.
Also, a large part my stomach is still numb. This is also normal, apparently it can take months (sometimes even a couple of years), to get feeling back, and there may be parts of the stomach that stays numb forever.
Nobody warned me about these things so they caused me a bit of worry! But after talking to a midwife, I was assured it's all normal!
Good luck with everything, I'm sure it will be a lovely experience meeting your little one 💖

Can you talk me through the whole process of the elective c section? How do they decide when etc? I'm over 40 so I don't know if that will make a difference.

Elective sections are done between 39 and 40 weeks.
Being over 40 isn’t an indication for elective section

No I know that but due to previous complications with my natural births plus my maternal age it is likely that they will agree to my decision to have an elective. According to my midwife anyway. Will see my consultant next week to discuss it more.

2 naturals and 1 planned section (developed a fear of childbirth) this one I'm having another was a wonderful birth x

FoxyLoxSox · 23/09/2022 21:30

It is your right OP if that’s what you want. They don’t have to personally agree to it, they just need to refer it to someone that will. Which they must do.
