Screening for Down Syndrome came back higher

hoping someone can help that has been through this or offer some advice.

Im 27 pregnant with my first baby, I’m 14 weeks and 1 day and recently had my first scan. The measurements of baby were all fine and I opted for the screening tests for Down syndrome, edwards and Pateu. That was only on Monday.

I received a call yesterday to advise the results for Edwards and pateu were really low but my Down syndrome had came back as higher. The cut off is 1/150 and mine came back as 1/140. I have opted for the NIPT test which is tomorrow but I can’t stop Crying and worrying about it I just never even thought about the results coming back as this.

Did anyone else have higher results and come back ok after the NIPT? And does anyone know what can make your results come back as higher, I have read age but my age isn’t classed as high?

thank you

My risk was 1:49 , did an amniocentesis and discovered that I was expecting a healthy daughter. She doesn't have Down syndrome, but OMG the attitude !

Sorry @MTB95 , that’s must be really stressful. At 1:140 don’t forget that means it’s 99.29% chance all is fine.

Good luck x

Don't panic. My best friend was 32 and had the screening test. Her results came back very high too. She was even asked if she wanted an abortion. She was distraught. She had 4 miscarriages all before 13 weeks before so was over the moon to get to 14 weeks. She elected not to have amniocentesis because of risk of miscarriage. Her baby boy was born and is absolutely perfect. Don't make any hasty decisions.

Thank you so much for telling me your story that makes me feel a little better. I get my test tomorrow so hoping it comes back quickly so I can get back to enjoying pregnancy. It’s awful feeling like this x

@Amelia56 i went for the test this morning they advised the Same. High HCG and low Papp A but also my neck measurement on baby was considered higher. It was 3.3mm so still in normal
range under 3.5mm but she said was on higher side x

Similar story with me! 1 in 130 chance for downs, this was a few weeks ago, then the NIPT came back low risk a week later. I think it was my hormone levels plus age (mid 30s). Try and stay positive xx

Hi, just thought I would share my experience. I have 4 children already, my eldest being 20! I am having a surprise pregnancy at 42 years old. We were given the NHS screening test which came back at 1:18 and NF was 2.99 mm.

I refused amnio due to risk of miscarriage and opted for NIPT instead Came back as high risk. I have researched and researched and researched and accepted baby will have DS. We are under care of fetal medicine and baby is doing fabulous. Currently 30 weeks. I experienced fear, anxiety, cried lots etc at first but have now accepted it and am actually excited. She is just a baby at the end of the day and will just be a different journey with this one. I am determined to make it work and for her to have a full and happy life xxx
