Hi all

i have an early viability scan tomorrow with the NHS. Given how early this is, do you think it will be an internal exam? Just trying to prep what I am wearing.

Thanks all

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes I would say definitely x

20viona · 21/09/2022 17:30

Yes definitely internal. It's not too bad don't worry.

Mummyboy1 · 21/09/2022 17:31

Yes, definitely internal

Sallyh87 · 21/09/2022 17:33

Thank you all, I will mentally prepare myself for that then!

Yes, they may try to do an abdominal scan first. If they have asked you to go with a full bladder then it will be abdominal then likely internal. They asked me first if it was ok to do an internal, but it gives a clearer picture of what’s happening. Don’t worry it doesn’t hurt.

Yes I agree, definitely internal at that gestation x

I've just found out I'm 4 weeks pregnant, I'm just wondering when I should call the doctor. Ideally I'd like to have an early scan. Should I book an appointment as soon as possible?

Sallyh87 · 22/09/2022 10:41

Hi @theodora2146 , in my area you don’t call a doctor. You call the community midwife team and they will do a booking in appointment around 8 weeks . I also self referred to the specialist obstetrics team at my local hospital as I have some health issues, that’s where the early scan has come from. I don’t think the NHS routinely do any scans before 12 weeks.

I had an NHS scan at the same point you have one today and mine wasn't done internally.

Mumtobe2023 · 22/09/2022 21:53

How did your scan go op? 😀❤️

Sallyh87 · 23/09/2022 07:04

@Mumtobe2023 , actually great (tiny little heart beat 🥰). I have literally no symptoms so I was surprised.

For anyone wondering, they tried an abdominal scan but couldn’t see enough so did internal. As pp said it’s not painful at all, although a little bit awkward!

Thanks everyone, it’s good to know what you are to expect in medical appointments!

@theodora2146
The NHS don't scan until your 12 week scan unless you have had 2 or more miscarriages unfortunately, you can go private thou.
