Fitness to fly note

Hi all.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and due to fly abroad at 30 weeks. My pregnancy is low risk with no complications or health risks. The flight is very short and brief.

Been told to go through local GP and GP have said they don't do this and to go through my midwife however midwife says otherwise.

How often do airlines ask for these fitness to fly letters ? I feel i am at a dead end and no idea what to do with all the back and forth information.

Many thanks.

My midwife did one for me no problem? It was highly recommended I had one as I was flying when I was quite heavily pregnant (on the last day the airline would take me!) and they could refuse boarding if they thought it was a risk I could go into labour etc. It was transatlantic so not sure if this makes a difference?
My mum used to work for an airline and she strongly recommended I had a fit to fly letter with me that had been signed by my midwife

Depending where you are going and for how long- I thought you needed another for the return trip. Have you looked into getting that also, wherever you are going?

Which airline are you flying with? There's usually a form on the website

I flew with Ryanair at around 32 weeks, think had to put the outbound/inbound dates, also expected due dates

My midwife signed it no problem, just brought it with me at a routine appointment which happened to coincide shortly before the flight

I definitely wouldn't have asked my GP first, think it would've been more complicated & would have had to pay a fee

Also, don't think any health professional is going to tick the "fit to fly" box...just state due date, how many babies & whether pregnancy uncomplicated to date etc

I flew twice a week until I was 34 weeks, the airline I was using only took 'pregnants' up til 34 weeks so I had to stop. I had one fit to fly letter that was a nightmare to get, I had to see the consultant to get it, it was valid for 2 days so was useless for my return flight. In the end I did my own version & had it printed & ready for inspection if it was asked for. I offered it the first time at check-in and was never once asked after that, probably just as well seeing as they were home-made! But I did have a tiny little bump so never looked very pregnant, I just looked plumper than normal!

I can't get anybody to sign a fit to fly letter as both gp and midwife have policies not to. Online doctor won't due to a completely irrelevant pre-existing condition. I'm supposed to fly this week, but it looks like we won't be able to go - DD is so excited, I haven't had the heart to tell her yet.

My GP was going to charge me £25 which my midwife was horrified at and did me one for free, although nobody bothered to check it when I flew!

Did you get one OP? Currently worrying about this!

Hope you made it to your hol?
