Early scan behind

Hi all

This is my 2nd pregnancy - I MC in may of this year so am a bit of a mess at the moment. According to my LMP I should've been 6+6 on Sunday. I had a complete meltdown as I've not felt many symptoms at all and convinced myself I had miscarried. I'm on progesterone too so was worried this would mask anything. The scan found a heartbeat which is obviously great but the measurements put me at 5w4d (3.09mm). The sonographer wasn't worried at all and said LMP is a rough estimate but naturally this hasn't reassured me and I've read horror stories on here about MMC etc. He didn't ask me to come back for a rescan just said to carry on.

I know no one can tell me for sure but I'm not sure how much longer I can cope with this anxiety. Does anyone have any similar experiences or knowledge of accuracy of early scans and if I should be worried?

Thank you so much in advance

It's still super early to see anything and unless you know exactly when you ovulated. Definitely engage with mental health team or this will be a very long pregnancy.

@Pregnantpolly thanks for your reply. I already have MH support - that's not why I was posting. But thank you

I had a 12 week scan bang on 12 weeks by my calculation, and was told the gestational age of the baby was 10 weeks 6 days. I went back for my 12 week scan redo today and they put me at 12 weeks 3 days. Seems weird as I was tracking both period and ovulation, but for sure there is a healthy baby in there. Both times the sonographer has insisted that the baby is healthy, growing fine, right on track, just that the timing is behind. I did a bunch of googling and found that there are a bunch of things that can put the you a bit behind on dates, the most notable of which is if it took the fertilized egg a long time to implement (I read this can be up to 10 days). If you search Mumsnet or the internet on the question about baby behind the mother's dates, you will find it is not actually that uncommon, and most often is a weird thing, but fine. I think I would trust the sonographer in this case - baby has a heartbeat and looks good. There is always reason to worry (and I worried, too!) but from a somewhat more objective outsider, you got good enough news to be confident in. Big hugs and I hope you find peace with this.

I had a private scan at 8weeks I measured 6w6d, heartbeat could be soon though. I attended my 12 week scan at 12w1d as per my calculation and measured exactly to the day. This is my 2nd pregnancy too and I worried so much between my private scan and 12 week scan.
The worry is already back waiting for my 20 week scan 😂 can't remember worrying as much with my first.
Just know you're not on your own with how you feel!

I don't think there is a way to just stop worrying OP no matter what you hear, having been through 2 miscarriages myself. I was measuring 2+ weeks behind in my previous pregnancy and it ended in an early MC despite the good heartbeat detected. I am measuring 6 days behind LMP in the current one (would expect a couple of days behind based on later ovulation but not more) but am at 16 weeks and all is well so far. I had been worried about the 'wrong' measurements up until the 12 week scan where I was just re-dated and nobody gave it a second thought. I just sort of accepted that I was going to feel crap for quite some time and not enjoy PG after the previous losses. Grim, I know, but it also made it easier in a way. Wishing you all the best of luck x

You might have a tilted uterus meaning they can’t get accurate measurements?
Seeing a heartbeat massively reduces your risk of miscarriage
