Hi everyone
I'm feeling a but frustrated. I had a 20 weeks miscarriage last November. They couldn't find the cause of miscarriage. No infection ect. Scan show I had fibroids, had fibroids removed in May 2022. Been on my appointment Gynaecology follow up. The consultant told me everything went well , but they saw uterine septum 2cm and I might need surgery. Just feeling frustrated. Has anyone had uterine septum? Did they had to do surgery? If so did they had a successful pregnancy with uterine septum?

Hi, I'm so sorry for your loss, how heartbreaking.

I had three miscarriages between DD and DS, had investigations with Prof Regan's recurrent miscarriage clinic in London and they found a separate uterus (probably the reason why DD was so small).

I had a light GA and she resected the septum and inserted two copper coils to keep the uterus more 'open' while it healed. Pain was like period cramps for a week or so then gradually ceased although I spotted for a few weeks. After I think 6 weeks the coils were removed. She said to wait til after one normal cycle to try again.

I conceived second cycle of trying and had a great pregnancy and delivery and a much bigger baby. Hope this helps x

Septate that should have said first sentence!

@Poshgirl27
im so sorry for your loss. To answer your question, i only found out about my septum when I was in the process of giving birth (at full term)

the registrar did the surgery there and then, thankfully under epidural at the time

I think I got some good painkillers because of that after, although it’s a bit hazy now (7+ years ago now)

Thank you @glowingtwig for responding to my post. I've been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. I'm hoping that the uterine septum get resection, so I can start ttc.

Thank you @Cinnamo for taking your time to answer my question. I had a MRI after miss carriage and they did not see the septum. It was picked up while I was having a surgery for fibroids. I'm praying to God that all goes well when I concieve again.

After years of infertility treatment (and nobody being aware of my thickened sepum) I had a successful pregnancy, septum tore during birth and I had to have emergency surgery where by it was partially removed. I did go onto have another pregnancy with no complications from the septum.

I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through 🌺

I just thought I’d offer my experience as there aren’t a huge number of diagnosed septums out there! I had DD1 with absolutely no issues in 2019 and a subseptate uterus was seen at my 8w scan. I was told all along not to worry and wasn’t offered any extra monitoring. Healthy baby born at 31 weeks, though breech and turned my ECV - vaginal delivery.

I then went on to have recurrent early miscarriages over an 18 month period. I conceived all the time but always lost them between 5-8 weeks. I saw a couple of respected fertility specialists and had an absolutely disastrous round of IVF at the end of it all. I then conceived the following month out of the blue and have a 3 week old DD2. Breech again, successful ECV again.

in Australia they rarely perform resections, especially if you’ve previously carried a pregnancy to term. The doctors were very sceptical that my small septum was causing the miscarriages and thought egg quality was a more likely culprit - or bad luck - but recurrent miscarriage can have multiple factors. I’ll never know for sure what caused mine. The not knowing when you’re in the thick of it is really really painful and stressful. Sounds like you’re getting the best people on the case and I wish you all the luck xx

Sorry - DD1 was born at 41 weeks, not 31!

Nice hearing successful stories @Itsanothergrunt. I'm just here waiting on the clinic, so I can make a decision regarding surgery.

Thank you @orangehour for sharing your story. It takes me long to concieve, and only to reach this far and then lost my baby, felt devastated. But hearing others successfull stories, I know light will be at the end of the tunnel.
