First baby list! Is there anything I need to add

We have clothes and everything that's already ticked on the list! Is there anything I need to add?

I have a separate list of things I'll need post birth!

Trying to be organised... probably failing coz I feel like there is so much we need

Thank you!

It would be better if you typed out your lists. I can't read those.

Rowen32 · 14/09/2022 13:55

That looks perfect!

Skylark1990 · 14/09/2022 15:00

Looks like a good list! A few other things you could add:

  • a sling for contact naps on the go - the freerider is good for newborns

Looks like you want to breastfeed so a few breastfeeding things:

  • a good breastfeeding cushion (the my breast friend pillow is worth the cost!)
  • lansinoh nipple cream and the multimam compresses
  • if you get any nipple cracking, silver nipple cups are great for healing. But the key thing is a good latch so any pain get support asap and hopefully you'll avoid issues like cracking!

How exciting 😄

When buying a car seat look for one with a good height limit. Some are only 75cm and other 87cm, this will give you more options for the next stage of car seat when your at that stage! (I recommend looking into extended rear facing)The Avionaut Pixel Pro is a great infant seat.

Heath2330 · 14/09/2022 20:56

It's 10 years since I had my last baby and now pregnant with my 3rd if your looking at breast feeding all my friends who have been new mum in the last few years have recommended hacka breast pumps they are silicone and you can attach it to your other breast when feeding and it collect any leaking milk with out pumping in deffo gunna be investing in these x

Heath2330 · 14/09/2022 20:59

Also hooded baby towels

Riverlee · 14/09/2022 21:00

baby?

Albgo · 14/09/2022 21:15

If you're buying bottles then you'll need a steriliser too. Either a microwave / steam one or Milton tablets.
I don't think you need a nightlight for a newborn, but I found having a room thermometer useful.

Albgo · 14/09/2022 21:16

I also loved having breathable baby blankets (cellular).

SGChome20 · 14/09/2022 21:20

Sorry if I’ve just missed it but I can’t see car seat on the list.

CheshGirl · 14/09/2022 21:20

Metanium nappy rash cream

Captain1822 · 14/09/2022 21:39

Looks like a great list so far OP! The only things I would add (if they apply to you) are:
Bottle brush
Mirror for car/ baby on board signs/ window sunshades
Swaddle
Baby cotton buds
mattress protector

If you are wanting to swaddle baby, I cannot recommend the love to dream swaddles enough, they have been a life saver for us!

At least two bedding sheets for baby (so you always have a spare)

multiple changing stations! I bought 3 lots of everything (nappy creams etc) so I always had everything at hand upstairs, downstairs and in the changing bag ready without faffing.

12 weeks PP so very fresh in my mind! Good luck and congratulations x

NeedMoreTea · 14/09/2022 21:42

Couple of things I would suggest although you might have them on your other list already.

If you're planning to breastfeed - extra pillow for the bedroom and extra cushions for the sofa to get yourself in a really comfy position when feeding sitting up. I don't mean to put the baby on I mean for you. Plus a good few packets of biscuits Smile to nibble.

Also a well stocked freezer of easy to microwave meals for those times when you're tired and hungry and can't think what to do first.

Oh how I miss those newborn cuddles. How exciting for you!

Absolutely echo the Love to Dream swaddles

AluckyEllie · 14/09/2022 21:52

babybjorn bouncer (buy off marketplace as ridiculous price new.)
We found a bath thermometer useful as doubted our ability to tell if it was too hot (I’d have been bathing them far too cold.)

MoseSchrute · 14/09/2022 22:00

2-3 fitted sheets and a waterproof mattress protector. The ones here are great, but expensive. The one we’ve got for the Next2Me is more like a pad that goes over the mattress and under the fitted sheet but it’s been excellent. You don’t want to have a wet mattress at 3am. www.thelittlegreensheep.co.uk/bedding/mattress-protectors/

Hopelessacademic · 16/09/2022 13:59

Honestly my advice would be to buy the minimum and then see how you go!
There's a few things on your list that I thought we needed then we never used!

Breast pumps for example - I had one and used it a few times but honestly found it so uncomfortable and faffy that this time round (currently pregnant with second baby), if I need to leave baby for a couple of hours I'll just buy the ready-made formula bottles.
Also baby towels - cute while they're tiny, but after a few months a normal towel is fine and you have all these annoyingly tiny towels everywhere!

The main things are clothes - mainly babygrows, plus a couple of hats and cardis, somewhere to sleep, a pram and carseat.

HorribleHerstory · 16/09/2022 14:09

The only things I used from your list are baby carrier, Moses basket/cot, car seat, clothes, blankets, nappies bottles and muslin squares.

so I would definitely say, see how you go.

I never needed a special changing station or changing bag, they were all huge and unwieldy and a handbag or backpack was better. The changing bags seem designed to get you to carry (buy) mountains of stuff mostly not needed.

despite breastfeeding I have never used nipple cream, shields or breastfeeding pillows or clothing. I did use a pump and milk bags and bottles but didnt use a steriliser. I really had no need for a pram

bascially just see how you go, you can get lots of things next day delivery now

Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow · 16/09/2022 14:12

As others have said, no point buying bottles/sterilising equipment or a pump if you are planning to breastfeed (unless planning to combi feed from the start).

Pumps can be really expensive and you might find they don’t work for you (I exclusively bf 2 kids but couldn’t get a drop out when pumping), or if bf as a whole doesn’t work out then a pump would be pointless. If you need bottles etc you can get them once the baby is here.

Srx1 · 17/09/2022 11:31

Joining in as also expecting a baby in a couple of months and trying to make sure I've got everything ☺️

Not sure if I've missed it but was going to add - I bought a pair of silicone milk collection cups. Also I was recommended ergo baby carrier.

You've got loads of great suggestions here already! My main advice, having recently bought all the stuff (DD is 3 months old) is that apart from the essentials - car seat, pram, somewhere for them to sleep, clothes and nappies - it's maybe best to wait and see what you actually use! We have never used a changing table for example, just use the mat on the floor. I have a medela pump and express regularly but my friend who had her baby at the same time never uses hers. But her baby loves the carrier, whereas mine screams and refuses it 🤷‍♀️ you can get most stuff next day now if you find you urgently need it!

A couple of useful things I haven't seen mentioned: shnuggle bath, sleeping bags (though you'll probably need blankets until they're big enough) and cheeky wipes reusable wipes. So much nicer than disposables, though we do take disposables out and about. And for a changing bag, I just bought a cheap rucksack from decathlon - works a treat!

babyfefe · 10/10/2022 17:11

You can add the new giraffe baby security blanket or baby milestone blanket. these have new modern designs and very light materials.
