Reduced Fetal Movement

I’m 27 weeks pregnant today. This is my first pregnancy so I’m not sure if I am worrying unnecessarily.

On Saturday evening I noticed baby hadn’t been as active as normal, he usually goes crazy when I get into bed but I felt nothing despite changing positions and giving him a gentle prod. I woke up in the night and still didn’t feel anything and then the same thing again Sunday morning. I started to worry but as I was abroad I thought it would be pointless calling my midwife and we were due to fly home that day anyway. Movement started to pick up on the Sunday and by Monday seemed back to normal. I have woken up this morning and felt nothing again which is abnormal so started to worry, I was about to call my midwife when I felt him kick around 10am so I haven’t bothered, but I’m not sure whether I should or not? I don’t want to seem like I’m making a big deal out of nothing as I have felt him now, I have a midwife appointment on Friday so should I just wait and mention it then? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No you need to get seen today! Phone the day assessment unit for advice

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 13/09/2022 10:43

Anything that feels different needs to be checked out straight away

OhILoveDoughnuts · 13/09/2022 10:45

I would definitely get checked out.

Teaandcrumpets95 · 13/09/2022 10:46

Call, go get checked don't wait until Friday.

I had several instances of reduced movement during my pregnancy, (thankfully) everything was fine but the midwife's and doctors were always lovely and would rather you go in than not.

PinkFizz1 · 13/09/2022 10:46

Please call triage and get checked out today. Any change/reduction in movements needs looked at ASAP. I promise they won't think you're making a big deal out of nothing.

eatyourcrustspls · 13/09/2022 10:48

Go to triage now.

Fleur405 · 13/09/2022 10:49

You really need to call your triage line straightaway if you’re worried about anything at all. If it’s nothing to worry about they will tell you.

stormelf · 13/09/2022 10:50

You will not be making a big deal out of it at all. With my first I went to hospital four times for reduced movement starting at about 28 weeks and was monitored three times a week from 36 weeks until I gave birth at 39 weeks. I was always told by my community midwife and midwives at the hospital that any reduced movement should be reported and you are never making a fuss over anything that makes you worried.

Bootsandcat · 13/09/2022 10:52

Go in today, better to be safe than sorry.

abovedecknotbelow · 13/09/2022 10:54

Don't wait until Friday, call in triage now.

Eek3under3 · 13/09/2022 10:56

Please go in today, before lunchtime. Don’t put it off any longer. I went in a few times the week before DC was born. Really agonised over whether to phone and go in or not. I was admitted over night every time (for pre eclampsia, so not saying you are likely to be). DC is now 5 weeks and fine, but it’s not worth the potential risk.

Porridgeislife · 13/09/2022 10:57

You need to get seen. When a baby stops moving, it can mean they are trying to conserve energy because the placenta isn’t doing its job. This can come and go, so you really should be checked out. I promise the midwives won’t think you’re being neurotic or an anxious, they really want to see you if this happens x

PigglePuggle · 13/09/2022 16:08

Thank you so much for all your reassuring comments, I went straight to the hospital and have just got home after having some tests and monitoring done, all seems to be okay but they’ve asked me to go back tomorrow for some more tests and a scan just to be sure!
