Travelling abroad early pregnancy

Is it safe to travel abroad when pregnant? I'm 10+3 and super nervous about going away by plane for 5 days on Saturday. In two minds whether it's worth booking a private scan as some reassurance. I had a scan 2 weeks ago at 8 weeks and all was okay.

Why not? As long as you feel okay! Rather now, earlier on, than much later 😄

@Batbatbatty that's true! Yeah I feel quite okay, my symptoms haven't been really intense at all. Think I'm just worried in case it caused something to happen🙈

@Sunnyxo congrats! I went on holiday when I was 10 weeks pregnant with my first. Like you, I booked an early reassurance scan at 8 weeks mainly for peace of mind before we went away. Everything was absolutely fine re flying ☺️

I've just come back from a long haul holiday currently 18 weeks pregnant with my second and again, felt fine!

I'm sure you will be okay. ☺️

I've travelled abroad a lot with my current pregnancy, both for work and on holiday.

I didn't have any issues and just continued to follow NHS guidance for what not to eat etc. Flying is safe as well so no issues there.

Going in your 1st or 2nd trimester is a good time to go (as long as your not feeling too rough from morning sickness).

Enjoy!

Are you worried about having a miscarriage whilst away? Your travel insurance should definitely cover it. Which country are you going to, most have amazing healthcare, especially Europe.

Sunnyxo · 12/09/2022 18:31

@FebMama congrats also! 😃 that's really reassuring, thank you! Hope you had a good holiday away ☀️

Thanks @Sarahlouise86 thats reassuring too. it was mainly the flying I was worried about in case it caused something, so that's good to hear! Thankfully my symptoms have been quite good, on and off, and the break away is defo needed!

Did you guys wear pressure socks? I've read it's good to wear them for circulation to prevent clots

@dmask yeah mainly about MC, I've got travel insurance so okay on that front, and going to Spain so hopefully all good with healthcare. But just didn't want to go if it is a risk of causing a MC.

I'm 17 weeks with baby 2 and fly to Florida on Thursday! Midwife has said it's absolutely fine and just to make sure you wear compression socks to reduce risk of DVT

Also to make sure you have good insurance just in case you require it when away!

Enjoy the holiday op x

Batbatbatty · 12/09/2022 18:45

I wouldn't say you need compression socks for short haul. Just make sure you drink a lot, buy extra water when you're airside. And enjoy the trip!

dmask · 12/09/2022 18:52

I see, we’ll definitely don’t worry about that part of it then if all your healthcare is covered. Travel won’t cause a miscarriage.

Sunnyxo · 12/09/2022 22:29

@2020firsttimemum @Batbatbatty @dmask thanks all for reassurance, has helped a lot ease my mind!

Think I will get some pressure socks just in case even though it's a short flight, and also check my insurance policy

@2020firsttimemum have a great time in Florida!

I went to America when 11 weeks pregnant back in June, was absolutely fine. I just had to take things a little easier as I was quite tired at that stage, but being on holiday is relaxing anyway.

Regarding the flight itself make sure to get yourself an aisle seat so it's easy to get up and move about regularly. 😊
