I've read that they get your antibodies so could get the infection but it would only be mild illness or are completely asymptomatic and just carry the virus. my query is, if they are asymptomatic or had neonatal herpes and then recover, can they get flare ups/ become symptomatic at any point in their life? Will they have it on their genitals or face?

You need to speak to a medical professional, you're asking lots of questions like this on lots of threads

Batbatbatty · 12/09/2022 14:55

@anxiousmumtobeeee please make a list of all your questions regarding herpes and make an appointment with a health care professional to discuss them.
You've had so, so many threads on this topic.

anxiousmumtobeeee · 12/09/2022 18:08

Um no I really don't. Medical professionals just tell me not to worry and its not a big deal. Sorry but brain damage caused by herpes seems a big deal to me. Trying to gauge information from people with actual lived experience so I can best make a decision for my sons health is the way forward for me thanks. If you don't have any knowledge or a positive input then please don't comment on my thread, respectfully.

You have posted a lot on this topic and you seem anxious in general- it's probably a good idea to speak to someone about how you're feeling because that's really not good for you.

The person who posted this gave you sone good advice already Giving birth vaginally with herpes www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/4630372-giving-birth-vaginally-with-herpes?msgid=119903586#119903586

But this is a completely separate question about recurring outbreaks in children..nothing to do with the previous post so it's irrelevant.

You could try calling the Herpes Viruses Association Helpline? They might be able to provide more information.

Not really to do with pregnancy then, right?
Try on the children's board or health board.

violetcuriosity · 12/09/2022 18:35

I can hear how worried you are and by how many posts you have created. I recently posted if you want to find it about how I'm asking for an elective c-section with my baby for my mental health around this subject. When you're in the situation it is scary but, the chances of other things happening far outweigh the risks of baby contracting herpes. It sounds like you may need some support with your anxiety around this subject which might be worth speaking to your midwife about. Personally, I would go with the c section x

But you’re asking the same people and they are telling you that you need to speak to a qualified professional. 🤷‍♀️

Sunshinegirl82 · 12/09/2022 18:46

I had PNA with herpes as a focus for my concerns. I spent hours researching it, studying my newborn for symptoms, waking up at night to check him and carry on researching (and as a result of that and trying to ebf a tongue-tied, jaundiced baby getting almost no sleep which didn't help).

Have you explained to your midwife how much anxiety it is generating for you? My level of anxiety was out of proportion to the risk to my baby but I found that hard to see at the time because I saw it as something that "could" happen and therefore my anxiety was legitimate.

Pregnancy and birth is a very anxiety inducing time, if you are finding it is becoming all consuming then I'd really recommend speaking to your midwife for support.

There are 8 posts from you on this, 7 in the past week.
No one here can give you the information a medical professional can. Write down all your questions, and book an appointment.

Then if that’s what you want to do then read about it from health professionals research and report, not mumsnet FFS!

Where do I find your post? And thank you.

I think if you just search my username you can find it x

anxiousmumtobeeee · 12/09/2022 19:28

Well clearly I can't find any information on this specific thing online hence why I've come here, not for fun. Again, if you don't have any positive comment to add please just don't bother. You really don't know what people are going through and comments like yours just are just making my mental health worse. Please just bore off. Unless you're in my position, or have been in it and want to shed some actual lived experiences please just leave me alone, respectfully.

Why are you STILL posting about this?

JUST ASK A FUCKING DOCTOR!

anxiousmumtobeeee · 12/09/2022 19:32

Because I want to and I can. And I am a very anxious first time mum looking for support and kindness from other people who mayve been through the same thing who can offer advice and knowledge. Like I don't understand people like you... like literally don't comment if you don't have anything helpful to add! Just don't comment. Your comment is literally so pointless and unhelpful so just don't comment at all.

Hi @anxiousmumtobeeee , sorry you are going through this and it’s making you so anxious. It might be worthwhile posting in the general health chat about experiences of pregnancy and herpes. This thread is likely to be just women who are currently pregnant and won’t be able to answer your questions about their experiences as it hasn’t happened yet!

Good luck, my experience of pregnancy and the NHS is that they really take care of you so I am sure your doctors know what they are doing and can help.

What violet said.

Life comes with risk. Every decision we make has an inherent risk. Nothing is risk free, especially related to children, pregnancy and childbirth so you owe it to yourself and your unborn child to get a handle on your anxiety. Being human is risky. Speak to a mental healthcare professional because this level of anxiety is problematic, for you and your baby.
